Much needed day off tomorrow. Back home vs. Baltimore Tuesday.

Dye to the sox for Wily Mo and a pitching prospect (not bucholz or lester)?

Dye to sox looking pretty good

Basically platoon him and JD and try and get him more at bats elsewhere? Dye has been hot recently this could be an excellent move down the stretch but will he be happy with a reduced role, and does it matter?

If they have to give up MDC, I don't like it so much.

Edit: just looked up Justin Masterson, and I don't like throwing him in there either. Dye is 33 years old and very likely on the downside of his career (which as a whole really isn't that impressive, .274/.334/.484). I don't think JD Drew's lack of production this year is such a pressing problem that this deal needs to be made.

if you want a sub .300 obp w/ power, why not play wily mo pena? i dont get the dye fascination, unless the red sox want to DL ortiz for a couple weeks to let him heal up.

Even if WMP replaces Ortiz for the rest of the regular season, I don't see the Red Sox blowing an 8-game lead.

obviously, but jd drew is also not a .250 hitter, the guy dye is being brought in to take time from (it makes zero sense to trade dye to be a 4th outfielder)

what are you getting with dye? the guy who put up mvp numbers last year? the guy who hit .269/.324/.464 for oakland? the guy currently hitting .235/.295/.467? way too inconsistent, and someone that doesnt fill a need to give up a guy like masterson who has passed bowden as the 2nd best pitching prospect or a guy like delcarmen who seems to be the most reliable righty set up guy in the bullpen.

i agree. there is no reason to take on his salary as a fourth outfielder.

Is salary really even a consideration? Not saying I want Dye but wouldn't this just be a two month rental where salary wouldn't really enter into the equation?

it's needlessly spending money when ellsbury could come up when he's off the DL. the sox have already started his service clock, so why the hell not?
