I thought it was an awful call live, but on replay it doesn't look that bad. Howard unnecesarily dragged him to the ground as he was fouling, which probably warrants a technical, and Okur doesn't really shove him as much as just place his forearm on Howard's body as he's getting up.

But Bavetta didn't give him the technical for the initial contact. He just assumed Howard was talking and getting in Okur's face. If anything it would be a flagrant foul for the dragging, not a T.

[/ QUOTE ] I'd have to see the replay again, but I think Bavetta looked like he was planning on calling the T right after the contact but needed to run over and break up the confrontation first before making the motion. If this is the case, you're right, a flagrant is probably more appropriate, but a T could make sense if Bavetta felt the takedown was separate from the initial contact to the head.

Yeah, I could see that happening, but usually they will just throw the flagrant in if it was any part of the actual foul, but yea he could have just been trying to get the initial call in. Who knows, it was very heated.
