Re: VH1\'s \"The Pick up Artist\"
bk,
your comparison is pretty apropos i agree. but still not quite there, at least for me. when i would go on interviews i would make it about 50/50 being my particular self and being in "interview mode". one benefit being *i would stand out from every other cookie-cutter job applicant they see that day*. and in the event they would not be impressed, who cares, there would be plenty of employers, and having prior amazing 'jobs' in the past, it doesn't bother me. see any parallels here? thankfully i have found myself in the position where i do not have to alter my personality in order to land either job or hussy. |

Re: VH1\'s \"The Pick up Artist\"
Neuro-Linguistic Programming isn't about 'flash.' That's insane, not even remotely close.
One of the main points of NLP is congruence, that who you are, and what you look like has to be congruent with what you say, and how you act or people don't believe you/trust you/befriend you. [NLP goes much deeper than this with many additional facets.] If what you say is not congruent with your personality and appearance, generally people ignore or disbelieve you. Communication is 10% what you say, 30% how you say it, and 60% non-verbal cues. Mystery's look and personality and behavior are all congruent, so it works for him. The David DeAngelo's of the world or whomever similarly. Most guys fail because they are ignorant of the above or don't show congruence - the smart, not ugly, successful-at-work guy who doesn't understand why he can't get a girl: except he dresses poorly, has no self-confidence, can't make intelligent conversation, may be ignorant of current events, etc. No woman he randomly meets will ever believe/know he's smart and successful until he fixes those issues. |

Re: VH1\'s \"The Pick up Artist\"
also,
im not really hating on all of the pua stuff, especially because i am not terribly familiar with it. if it helps guys learn to be better in social situations, then that is great. if it helps them flirt better with women, fantastic. if it helps guys who are decent close better, good for them. but you shouldn't be so quick to defend against those who think "pua" in some senses is pretty douche-laden. because i mean, just look at how a lot of it has come off on these boards and others, which is the extent of a lot of people's experience with it. i am going to the bookstore today so i will finally pick up 'the game' and give it a quick read. because of course i would like to get better at randomly picking up women i see out and drop a tiny bit of social anxiety. but i don't really care about improving meeting women at clubs because a) not likely to want to date a dumb [censored], and b) that is easily handled by getting hammered. |
