I'm going to start taking serious drugs. What should I know?

The problem with E is that you really have no idea what you are ingesting. I don't give a crap if you've got a hookup that guarantees it's "pure MDMA maaan!" Everyone knows one of these hookups and I'd be willing to bet it's a load of crap almost every single time. They're just trying to sell their product. So unless you have access to the pharmaceuticals required to make X, you'll never be certain of what you are putting in your body. So to say that you'd be safe with absolutely no side effects from taking the drug just a couple of times a year is something that nobody can guarantee. That being said, I'd say the chance of having permanent and noticeable side effects from this infrequent use would be very low. Frequent use of the drug is a completely different issue.

Pure MDMA is most likely more harmful to the brain/brain chemistry than any of the filler substances. I dont think you'd have any noticably negative physical or mental effects if you used ecstasy 1-2 times a year, regardless of whats in it, unless it was like poison and you died or something.

Heh, goes to show how much I really know. But I still stand by the general point of my post, which is that you have no way of knowing what is in that pill that you are ingesting. Therefore, no guarantees on potential side effects can be made. But I do agree with you on the extremely low likelihood of anything severe or permanent happening as a result.

But some mild drug experimentation (I'd say just shrooms; maaaybe e and coke, as long as his friends aren't losers who will keep doing it) can only make him more mature. When you are in college, you can always spot the people who never did drugs in high school. They just look more innocent/inexperienced about life.

I'd say go for 1.5 hits of LSD. If it's weakish stuff that should be enough to get you a moderate trip. If it's really good stuff that much could put you in googoo-gaga land where you pretty much lose yourself (Steven Erkel's china trip x 1-3 intensity) which can be good or bad....

This is not even the problem, most dealers test their pills and can tell you what's good or bad about them. Most pills definitely test up MDx (probably not much pure MDMA around though).

The problem is sustained abuse of it, like any substance really, I just think E is easier to abuse than people imagine if you are in to a club party scene.

I don't think anyone would have problems if they took E anywhere up to 10 or 20 times a year especially if they are only taking 1 or 2 max pills. The problems come when you are doing 5 or more in a night.

Why are so many people so quick to judge? Everyone here who's taken these drugs, at some point in the past, had never taken any of these drugs. That's where OP is right now. Most of the people here who have taken these drugs have never OD'd. What makes you think our 18 year old in question is more likely to OD/go to jail/etc. that any other kid? What about his post strikes you as immature? He made a conscious informed decision to do so before he took the plunge, rather than stumbling into an unknown situation where he found himself pressured into using drugs like many other people their first time.

FWIW, he sounds like some of my dope-head (former) friends from school back in the day, and he's basically only had weed so far. And out of that bunch only very few were able to turn their lives around. Most of them only after being caught and sentenced.
