Re: Best pop/rock band
I really think the right answer is the Beatles (pre-whenever they got to creative/drugged out). Most people will say around Rubber Soul. Before that they really where just a great rock and roll band. I think John Lennon always claimed there best work was before they ever got famous or recorded, when they just whent on stage and played really rowdy rock and roll.

Also, has anyone mentioned Beck? [/ QUOTE ] No. But then again, I'm pretty sure everybody else read the OP. |

Just because they called themselves punk and wore leather does not change the fact that they wrote albums full of slickly-produced, catchy, 2 minute pop songs. |

Re: Best pop/rock band
[ QUOTE ]
KJS, nath, and others: The point is not that a bunch of bands you've listed don't rock or are not as good as those in the thread - I like many of them a lot more than most bands in this thread. But the question is pop-rock. [/ QUOTE ] This is the catch, El D: Do you define "pop"-rock by "popularity", or by the sound? I've always used "pop" to indicate a certain sound; namely, up-tempo and catchy. And even though some of the bands I listed are more popular in the college / indie scene, they fit that requirement perfectly. |

Re: Best pop/rock band
nath,
Don't take the college/indie scene thing too literally/seriously. Jimmy Eat World, for example, were indie stars, and they are as pop-rock as you get. |

everclear [/ QUOTE ] I was wondering when someone would mention them. I absolutely hate their music, but I think it fits the category. |

Re: Best pop/rock band
Is there a reason I haven't seen much or any Journey nominations?
