Wow, Air Force up 1-0 on Minnesota after the 1st. [/ QUOTE ] Come on Air Force, let ND be the only one seed left standing (and even that was a 2OT thriller.) |

Re: Official 2006-2007 College Hockey Thread
WTF?
These games are just crazy. So much for the supposed 'dominance' of the major conferences (NCAA tourney only though...because they still get clobbered by the big conferences in the reg-season games as best I can see). Miami slipping past NH is not TOO huge an upset. It's a 3rd place team from one major conference beating a 1st place team from another major conference. That can happen all the time. UMass beating Clarkson isn't a gigantic upset either but it was still a bit surprising. But the UAH 2OT game was just ridiculous as is the idea of Air Force beating Minnie (especially now that the Holy Cross thing last year should have them not taking anything for granted). AF was 19-15-5 in a pretty inferior conference. Early in the year they got swept vs Alaska-Fairbanks 3-0 and 8-4. And Fairbanks finished 11th out of 12 in the CCHA. They finished the season strong, but there is no way they should be beating mighty Minnesota. Top seed coaches shouldn't have ANY trouble getting their teams motivated to play these smaller-conference schools in the future. Just show them video of UAH taking ND to 2 OT's, Holy Cross beating Minnie, and maybe Air Force doing the same thing. |

Re: Official 2006-2007 College Hockey Thread
Michigan started out looking pretty good. They scored 2 goals in the first minute of the game against NoDak and were up 3-1 and totally dominating play to start the game. NoDak could hardly get it out of their own zone. Then they just stopped playing, pulled a few penalties, couldn't kill them off, and were down 4-3 going into the second. No problem, they score two more goals in the first minute of the second and we're back in business. More penalties, no penalty kill, NoDak's goalie wakes up, Sauer doesn't, and they blow it 8-5.
Through the first two periods, UM was great even strength, but gave up like 6 power play goals. I think NoDak scored all but one of their goals on the powerplay before scoring shorthanded in the empty net at the end. Kill a penalty, would ya? Sauer was looking far less than spectacular, letting in some pretty weak goals. 12 goals scored in the first two periods and only an open-netter in the third. Crazy, but mostly disappointing game. Oh well. I'm looking forward to Minnesota working over NoDak tomorrow. |

Having to live off text messages from my buddy who was at the game and rooting for Air Force(bitter DU fan) was not fun. North Dakota is a great team, I have to think that whoever wins this game SHOULD win it all. |

Re: Official 2006-2007 College Hockey Thread
Wow, horrible (but exciting) game between Mich and North Dakota. 7 first period goals, 12 in the first two, and 4 goals in the first 5 minutes of the first two periods. ND was deadly on the powerplay. Michigan generously gave them many chances by taking incredibly stupid penalties. Sauer played terribly as well. Oesa (?) for ND got the lamest hat trick I can remember: empty-netter, bank shot from an impossible angle, weak wraparound goal that Sauer and the defense decided they didn't needed to contest.
Really Michigan had many great chances the 2nd half of the game, but unlike Sauer, ND's goalie realized that he should consider trying to stop the puck, which he then did very well. Gonna be a rough year next year as we lose half the D and TJ Hensick. Most of the forwards are back, but TJ was such a great playmaker it'll be tough. Sauer really needs to take a big step, the young defenders need to step up, and everyone needs to 1) not take stupid penalties and 2) learn how to both clear the puck and move it cleanly from our own zone through the neutral zone. Oh, and Jack Johnson should come back (but he won't). |

Re: Official 2006-2007 College Hockey Thread
bleh, BC disposes of Miami pretty easily in the 2nd round and the Golden Eagles are off the Frozen Four.
Big congrats to Miami winning an NCAA tourney game for the first time ever. |
