This is crazy talk. The Mongol Empire was already divided into four separate khanates at the time. The troops killed in Japan were hardly going to be sent from the richest area in the world across the entire steppe to conquer impoverished cold Europe for a different khan.

The khanates weren't seperate until Kublai died. He was still in control.

My mistake. They were still formally unified, but the split that would happen after Kublai's death was already largely a de facto reality. It still seems absurd that troops would be sent from China to rampage around Europe.
