Re: Ask me about financial success to spending 2 years state prison
Im not saying the OP def did anything illegal, but if as a rich jewish kid he was railroded to 2 years in jail (a better jail at that because of family connections) wtf chance does a broke black kid have?
Also, if I had to bet I would wager that he did illegal things that most likely are industry standard. This is not the same as being on a jury in criminal court and saying he def did it. In court I would have heard all of the evidence. Im just saying its more likely than not. |

People think just because someone's in court, they must have broken the law. [/ QUOTE ] People think this because people who end up indicted are big favorites to be guilty. BTW, if you ever want out of jury duty, just say the above, plus "I don't think I can ignore that and fairly weigh the evidence." |

People think just because someone's in court, they must have broken the law. That's like saying if you get pulled over by a cop, it's because you've broken the law. [/ QUOTE ] No, it's not the same. Being indicted is a different step than being pulled over. More to the point, nobody in this has even implied that he was guilty just because he was in court. |

[ QUOTE ]
Having been in legal trouble myself, I know that, sometimes a plea bargain sounds like the best idea. I was arrested when I was 18 on a felony charge. It was a trumped up vandalism charge, but what can you do? When the judge told me how long the max sentence would be if I was convicted, I was sure as hell thinking "Plea Bargain.. NOW!!" Luckily my lawyer had prepared me and told me not to freak out. [/ QUOTE ]What happened? |

Re: Ask me about financial success to spending 2 years state prison
All,
...in practice, a grand jury rarely acts in a manner contrary to the wishes of the prosecutor. Judge Sol Wachtler, the former Chief Judge of New York State, was quoted as saying that a prosecutor could persuade a grand jury to "indict a ham sandwich." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_jury My lawyer told me the "ham sandwich" line when I asked what are the chances of me being indicted. I agree that most who are plea are usually guilty of something, but there are times where it is not so clear. What happened to me was definitely one of those times. It is not murder or even embezzlement where either "you did it or didn't". This was "is what we did illegal"? |
