First of all, I think Ihatekeithsmart has the best taste of anyone so far.

Lotta good ones named, but here's mine:

1) Brand Nubian- One For All
The GOAT. No need for rewind, skip, FF or anything. just put it on.

2) Eric B and rakim - Paid In Full
Ditto. "My Melody" may be as good as Hip-hop gets.

3) Boogie Down Productions- By All means Neccesary
KRS-ONE is #1. "My Philosophy" one of the top 5 all time hip hop tracks.

4) A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
"Microphone check 1-2 what is this, the 5 foot assasin with the roughneck bizness
I flow like gravity
never had a cavity
i got more rhymes than the wynans got family"
Anyway.

5) Boogie down productions- Criminal Minded
"Poetry" check it out. Also, "The Bridge"among others.

6) KRS-ONE- Krystyles
I know i love KRS, but man this is great. Not ral well known in the mainstream. but seriously incredible.

7) Beastie Boys - Liscence To Ill
Dont lie, u loved it.

8) Kayne West - The College Dropout
"All falls Down" is top 10.

8 is enough.

1. Wu-Tang Clan - Enter The 36 Chambers

Enough has been said about this album, but I hear songs from this album almost every day still. I can't believe that this isn't on everyone's lists!

2. Big L - Lifestyles of Da Poor and Dangerous

I miss Big L way more than I will ever miss Notorious BIG. This is an album that ought to be on every list as well.

3. Outkast - Aquemini

This is a toughy, I like a lot of Outkast albums and never really settle on a favourite.

4. Tribe - Low End Theory

Similar to 36 Chambers, I hear songs from this all the time still as well.

5. Danger Doom - The Mouse and the Mask

Ever since I heard this album for the first time, I've been addicted. I've probably heard Benzi Box and Sofa King a million times each.

6. WC - The Ghetto Heisman

This is one of my favourite west coast albums. I know most people will disagree with this but I'm a sucker for WC.

7. Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx

This is so gangster it's not even funny. The kind of album you can get high and just zone out following all the stories being told.

8. Nas - Illmatic

It's already been said enough times.

9. GZA - Liquid Swords

GZA paints some pretty incredible pictures in this album. I've heard every track so many times!

10. Tribe - Midnight Marauders

I couldn't leave this out.

In summary I'm horrible at writing about music but I had to get Big L and Danger Doom out there!

BIG L- LIFESTYLES OV DA POOR AND DANGEROUS

Also, stop picking Black Album/Blueprint over Reasonable Doubt.

Also, Game Theory over Things Fall Apart?

This thread makes my head asplode.

"Also, Game Theory over Things Fall Apart?"

Both of these albums pale in comparision to Do You Want More.

RD is good, I think TBA is a little bit more solid.

heresy on the 8 year anniv of L's death, but Lifestylez is not a top 10 record. Beats too primitive, and his maturity on Big Picture makes you yearn for that refined flow here. Incredible record, classic in the way Black Moon and Smif n Wessun offered classics, but not top 10. And this coming from the biggest L fan around. Just trying to be objective.

You can't go wrong with Reasonable Doubt, but this thread is about personal choices right and personally I was unfortunate enough to miss out on RD for a certain retarded reason until I had heard everything else of his up to Blueprint 2, so I dunno I guess I didn't get its full impact.

I agree on Game Theory, it is in the lower half of Roots releases IMO. When listening to it I'm like oh cool Jay Dee tribute, then what its already over?

1)
uneasy listening: volume 1, dj z-trip and dj-p
They hip-hopize lots of music, rock music, 80's music, the girl from ipanema. It is a really fun cd, easily my favorite cd ever. The whole spirit of it is hip hop, not necessarily rap. Think breaking.

2)
funkmaster flex the mix tape volume 1:
funkmaster flex from hot 97.7 in nyc put out this mix tape in like 1996. it is awesome-- it has all kinds of freestyle stuff from epmd and busta rhymes and wu-tang. and then when you're getting bored of all that he goes into a little old school with like ll and biz and what not. there are volumes 2-5 but they all suck. this is a must buy for all hip hop fans, it will have you nodding your head. funkmaster flex has an insane amount of charisma so he keeps the entire tape entertaining.

3) deltron3030 - del the funkee homosapien, kid koala and dan the automator
Del basically spends an hour rhyming every sci-fi and computer term ever invented and kid koala and dan the automator back it up with some ridiculously nice beats. There are some little transforms that kid koala does on top of these choral-sounding samples that gives me the shivers.

4) prefuse 73: vocal studies and uprock narratives
This cd is ridiculously good to drive with. It combines glitch and IDM with hip-hop and I think these beats will be what hip hop steals from in the next ten years. My first time listening to it I got a huge smile on my face because I knew it was going to be in the regular rotation for a long time. It is erratic but funky and chill at the same time-- really interesting to listen to.

5) midnight marauders: a tribe called quest
I dunno if I really have to explain anything. It is the tribe. And it's their best CD. They all have a nice smooth flow.

6) stone cold rhymin, young mc
Another one without any explanation. I think his flow is as good as Eminem but almost all of his stuff is lighthearted and positive. Really upbeat, really fun.

7) kill at will, ice cube
sick beats. even has a song about it on the album.

8) ready to die, biggie smalls
i'd buy it for the beats. but his super calm but wandering kind of flow on top of it puts it in my top ten.

9) slim shady lp, eminem
when i first heard this i was blown away. i still am. he is amazing. his lines have rhymes that rhyme multiple words in previous lines, rhymes within the line itself and almost none of the rhymes sound forced, they all go along smoothly with the story he is telling. incredible.

10) to the 5 burroughs, beastie boys.
love it. mixmaster mike does an incredible job of breaking back old school beats but giving them a little more of that banging bass and rawness that is in a lot of modern hip hop. beastie boys are always good.
