Somewhat smart in a narrow-minded, draconian sort of profit hungry way. Potentially a long-term killer and marketing disaster.

The fact they're one of the (the?) biggest online casino but only the 13th largest poker site probably can be explained at least in part by this attitude

Which are the top three sites?

Full Tilt, P Startrs and Party P?

Where are they located?

I can't speak for any particular sites and it's true that employers do ask for some ****ing stupid qualifications, but the OP has a good working ability with English provided he's not involved with face to face customer support

[/ QUOTE ]
From what I know of the industry and in this thread so far, OP didn't work for any of those three. I like the suggestion that it was Pacific though, there's anecdotal evidence that would fit.

[/ QUOTE ]

IIRC, before the launch of Full Tilt but after Party and Stars became popular (late 2003 - early 2005???) I would think more than 1/2 dozen sites could claim to be number 3 at the time( Prima, Ultimate, Paradise True, Pacific, Tribeca,Doyels Room, ETC) depending on the day of the week, what promotions were running etc. Pacific certainly fits the profile.

It's hard to trust anybody that starts their post w/ a disclaimer.

"And here's the cruncher, if you were detected as a bot you were temporarily closed and told to remove the program."

I thought you weren't supposed to start a sentence w/ "And" Ironic

That's just a rule to help people who are not too good at English (such as school-children) who tend to break sentences at conjunctions. (e.g. We went to the seaside. And we had ice creams.)

If you are competent with English there is no reason why you cannot start a sentence, or even a paragraph, with 'and'.

Now I wonder how many mistakes will be found in the above.

English is not my native language, but noone (except my wife nagging) until now has told me that my English is soo bad ... I notice I do mistakes because I type fast - appologies to the grammar loving people. It was no problem however for me to get hired and to do my job. We did not interact with players, neither by e-mail nor by phone. We interacted with security and with management. By "close to development" I meant we are technical people with very strong skills in Math, CS and programming. We do not code the software, but knew the codebase (and certainly had access to it). I will not go in more details.

If you still have issues, PM me and lets talk about bot detection, do you want?

Note: I do not propose to talk about bot detection in the public forum because I have seen it is not accepted, people being afraid of educating bot authors. On this topic I wanted to respond here as part of general response to PokerStars security staff but such genaral response I cannot do, it will reveal to much hints about me. The point is that actual deep discussion on existing bot detection will lead bot authors to give up on hiding bots, instead of educate them. But I do not want to spin off another discussion topic, I think the stuff going on already is enough intrusive to peoples mindset.

I find it hard to believe that a person with such bad grammar and command of English was in a position such as the one you claim

Your English is fine. A great better than a lot of native speakers I know.

I must admit that having, as a result of this thread, viewed the cheaters' site I now know for certain that not a single one of the poker rooms is doing all it can to eradicate 'bots.

A couple are doing more than the others but not one is using a simple(ish) technique to get rid of, at least, all their robots. This became apparant after reading some posts that imply a definite, exploitable, weakness in the cheats' stealth tactics.

warning: off topic content ahead.

I'm still somewhat affected by the memories of tyrant like English teachers able to grade my papers down but unable to deliver to me a set of black and white rules that would allow me to permanently escape their "judgement" calls.

The day I learned about computer languages and compilers was truly a light at the end of an evil tunnel. And, I do indeed agree with you about the use of the word "and" at the beginning of sentences.

I remember asking a college English teacher why they were unable to grade my papers as honestly as my compiler graded my source code. And the answer was - "Your grade depends on how I feel about your writing." I later came to realize that English teachers see themselve quite like the judges in Gymnastics, Diving, and Skating; and I was wanting them to be more like the Track and Field judges who use tools such as stop watches and measuring tapes.

And, every time I use "and" at the beginning of a structure I can feel my soul lifting a quiet middle finger to the Nazis of my youth.

This might be the best part of this thread. AND it's off topic. Notice that I didn't say its off topic, but rather used the contraction for 'it is'
