Re: Thoughts on Changing my Name?
i dont really see the problem here, you have a cool name(although i think its a washing powder) but people fook up. i have quite a few friends with different names for example, eden and lokryn and it seems to work for them(chicks love it). i'd much prefer your name to joh, dave or richard etc
quite a few people i know have celtic names and while they have the same problem you're having they seem to have more pride in their roots which i think is important. |

Re: Thoughts on Changing my Name?
[ QUOTE ]
FF, You have a very nice name, why change it? Ariel sounds unique. [/ QUOTE ] I second this, I really like Ariel. Probably sounds better with a Norwegian pronunciation than an American one though. Solution: learn to speak Norwegian and pronounce it like we would. |

Re: Thoughts on Changing my Name?
This thread has successfully enabled me to make sure to pronounce your name correctly if I ever meet you in real life; and, to avoid making little mermaid jokes.

Re: Thoughts on Changing my Name?
Moving to Canada or acquiring a Norwegian accent are excellent suggestions.
I still have problems here in Canada, but it is about 10x worse when I meet Americans (generally not 2p2ers, but common folks). FWIW my nickname in HS was Izzy, but I out grew that and I much prefer my real name now. I really don't see the problem with Ari, just go with that when you first meet people. It is unique, but certainly not hard to say. Now, if you decide to change the name I suggest something awsome like Ravinder or Tyrone. |

Re: Thoughts on Changing my Name?
My mom, brother, sister and I all go by our middle names so I get called by my first name (Chris) a lot but its not that big a deal, I just act like its my real name in Airports and such for conveniance and correct people if I think I will talk to them more then twice.

Re: Thoughts on Changing my Name?
there was a guy at my h.s. who changed his last name from Gay to Gray. I think he got more crap for changing it than he did in the first place.
