Eh, it's not that bad. He's career OBP is about .350.

I was in favor of trading Melky for a relief pitcher in the offseason, but he's really grown on me to the point where I'd like to see him be the every day CFer next year. He 23 and doesn't have to improve by much to be very good. Just get his walk rate back to where it was last year and add a little bit of power and you have an .800+ OPS with very good defense.

And I forgot to add, that's only a few points below Damon's career OBP. If I have to chose between Mekly and Damon playing CF and batting leadoff, I'll take Melky.

rly? I haven't checked any zone ratings or whatever, but I kinda figured he was at least league average.

So you'd rather have Posada, Giambi, ARod, Matsui or Andy Phillips bat leadoff? Other than Jeter, I don't see a better option. I said it's not that bad, not it's perfect.

I admit I haven't seen him play a lot so I could definitely be wrong about him being good at defense. I based that on what other people have said and his zone rating, which I know is far from perfect.

Sign me up. I posted a year and a half ago that I didn't like the Damon signing because Jeter was a better leadoff hitter and I knew Torre would never bat him there with Damon.
