it's fine to cheer for the guy when he gets his 300th win, but don't do the 2-strike clap AGAINST YOUR TEAM cubbiessss

I agree, but at the same time, it's not so bad. Cubs are down 5 with 2 outs. Francisco Cordero isn't pitching, so they really have no chance to win. The fans might as well accept the loss and cheer for history.

We lose an outfielder and we're bringing up...Patterson? We should just release Murton and get it over with.

Oh, and Soto's last 10 games since he got sent back to Iowa: .341/.400/.902

I hope Eric Patterson doesn't have a fetish for chin-high fastballs like his older brother...

Why is Patterson getting called up instead of Pie? Pie's AAA season numbers look better, he's swinging a hot bat lately and has played at the major league level. Are there limited options left on Pie since he has been up and down so much?

Play Murton already. He proved his worth at the major league level all of last year. His D may be a little shaky but at least his bat is proven.

The only thing that I think swings in Patterson's favor is that he is a better hitter against lefties (and possible the options). With a last name of Patterson, I already have a bad taste in my mouth.

As I understand it, here's the pecking order of Cubs outfielders:

Soriano
Floyd
Jones
Pagan
DeRosa
Murton

And this is assuming Patterson doesn't get more ABs.

How does a young prospect with as much success as Murton get demoted to 6th outfielder, and could be lower than two converted 2nd basemen?

For a team that has spent so much money you would think they could do a little better in terms of an outfield.

Jones was certainly going to fare worse than he did in '06, but no one could've expected him to post a .350 slugging line. And Pie was a great second option if he didn't produce.

The Floyd/Murton platoon wasn't unreasonable either.

The real problem was the way the situation was handled once Jones and Murton stopped hitting, although Murton's bad start wasn't nearly as severe.
