i think boston is a favorite vs. cleveland, but it's close.
boston vs. new york is so hard to call because these teams have seen so much of each other, something weird always happens. but i like boston to win the ALCS no matter who wins this series, although i wouldn't lay much of a price on it. i think the rockies could stay hot and beat any of these three teams in the WS, but they would still be a dog. arizona would be a HUGE dog. |

[ QUOTE ] teams starting a SP on short rest have lost 17 of their last 21 in Division series play (over the last 10 years) [/ QUOTE ] You need to normalize this though to see how they performed vs expectation [/ QUOTE ] Well, just from a rough perspective, its not like they are rushing out #4 starters on short rest. |

Pretty sure Wakefield will be the 4th starter if he's healthy enough for the ALCS.
As for tonight's game, I believe Wedge is making a big mistake. Byrd is not going to shut down the Yankees...the best they can hope for out of him is a 5-6 innings 3-4 run performance and if Wang is pitching well that is an automatic loss. Sure, Sabathia could be sore on 3 days rest and not give a great performance, but if that's the case Byrd can go a few innings along with the rest of the bullpen. There is a good chance that Sabathia pitches well and wins it for them right now. Even if not, they can have Carmona on 4 days rest for the finale vs Pettitte. Carmona and Pettitte have clearly been their team's top pitcher so far this series, both shutting down the respective offensives. Wang and Sabathia both had shaky starts and you really don't know what to expect there. If you concede game 4, which they are essentially doing by starting Byrd...you risk Sabathia struggling with control in Game 5, and then what? Bring in Carmona from the pen with the game already out of hand? I don't see a positive result from starting Byrd, hopefully I'm wrong, but I think Wedge just gave the Yankees their only out in this series. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Bullpen - Big Boston edge. Defense - Boston edge. [/ QUOTE ] No way. Cleveland's bullpen is better for sure with Lewis/Perez/Betancourt. Defense is also very close to call but is a slight Boston edge at best. [/ QUOTE ] LOL @ your analysis. Why don't you try reality instead of fantasy land analysis? http://resultsdisoriented.blogspot.c...ver-usage.html [/ QUOTE ] Cleveland's usage patterns don't reflect a huge disparity given that Borowski's QERA is under 4 and their relievers are otherwise deployed in a reasonable pattern with better results than the Red Sox pen. It's also less relevant than most other factors. [/ QUOTE ] I love how you've become a Borowski fan ever since you found out his QERA is under 4. Do you still want to trade him for Gagne? |
