Planes, Trains & Automobiles.... part of this is cause the hotel they stay at called the "El RanchO" is in my neighborhood.... always gives me a warm and fuzzy when I drive by it. Such a great movie... I really relate to both Candy's and Martin's characters in that flick. |

The problem with this is that I think in the OOT demo, a ton of people will know of him, even if they don't know his music. But for the overall population, he's a pretty solid example. (I don't think this same test applies to the guy from sublime). [/ QUOTE ] I think I'm missing something. Are you saying that the general population would recognize the name of the dead lead singer from Sublime? I think he's a good example for this thread, because I doubt whether enough young people know his name to make him famous, much less the general pop. If you say, "the dead lead singer from Sublime," maybe, but if you walked up to a contemporary and said, "Brad Nowell died ten years ago today," they'd probably just stare at you. |

[/ QUOTE ] I know Sublime better than most, (not in OOT, but in general) and I could not tell you the lead singer's name. I could tell you that he was dead though. So I guess I agree that he fits in this thread very well. |

TD: Yes! Ian Curtis. He certainly set the bleak tone for Joy Division. I often wonder how long they would have stayed together if he hadn't killed himself. Mine is Johnny Thunders, guitarist for NY Dolls and The Heartbreakers. He set the prototype for punk guitarists in the early 70's. The cause of his death is subject of debate but there's no doubt drugs played a part in it. What a waste. ![]() [/ QUOTE ] Great call. I think Evan's father was friends with him. |
