Not suprised he dropped out of school. doesnt s eem the smartest chap in the world

You could & should learn a lot from Mark. Both about poker & other things.

He & I came up through the small stakes online games at the same time. I doubt I would've admitted it then, but in the time since it's become exceedingly apparent that he is a much more gifted poker player than I am. I focused on enjoying my winnings from small stakes by buying lots of nice things, he focused on growing his bankroll & skills and moving up the ladder. So now he's winning WPT tourneys & playing high stakes games & I still haven't played above 15/30 and have yet to record a 4-figure cash in a tournament.

He's also been one of the nicest & most generous individuals I've ever "met" via 2+2. Generous both in terms of his personal decisions (to a fault perhaps, which his blog demonstrates) and in terms of the advice he's offered over the years on these forums. Scan through the archives and I'm sure you'll see exactly what I mean.

While I understand that a big part of the internet is comprised of uninformed opinions based on incomplete information and being treated as fact, I hope that you can also understand why I take exception to your above statement.

I think I agree with the original statement. He lacks a lot of common sense. He makes some very dumb decisions for someone who is probably quite intelligent.

Playing poker your entire life for a living?

WOW

No way, it doesn't even matter if I would make 500k a month from playing it, its not my life. I want to do something that makes me happy, and there are MUCH MORE things than poker.

You do realize that a smart person can make a lot of bad life decisions right? That's is what I am saying. I assume he has some natural intelligence in order to play poker as well as he does. But just because you are smart it doesn't mean you have common sense and make good decisions.

Absolutely. I'm living proof.

Everyone makes mistakes, that's just part of life. Pointing out that someone else has made one (or many) is extremely easy to do. Forgetting that you've made a lot of them yourself is also easy to do. Both of those traits are human nature.

Showing up in a thread on an internet forum to do nothing more than slanderize someone whom you've never even met while insulting their intelligence is also, sadly, modern human nature. I'm not saying that you have done that (you haven't, so far as I can tell), and I'm not even saying that the poster who made the initial comments actually meant them that way. But that is the way they came across, and that's what I took (take) exception to.

Anyway, I'm off my soapbox in this thread. Stay in school & just say no, and stuff.

I think you should do what you love--as long as you're not sponging off your family and friends. I will advise you to always have a plan B and even a plan C if possible. Good luck to you and enjoy!

On the whole topic of finishing school or not, obviously that decision is personal in nature. Over the past ten years, post-secondary dropout rates have skyrocketed, but so have the number of students aged 29-39 getting their undergraduate degrees. Many are pressured into attending college from a young age, and indeed it may not be the "thing" for everyone. Sit down and be honest with yourself, do you plan to return? Even if you have to slug it out for another year or whatever you have left to complete, think about it long and hard. It might be your biggest mistake, and the roadblock to you finding your true calling.
