[ QUOTE ] The stadium they played the game in only seats 27,000. [/ QUOTE ] because you don't book the moscone center for a fat kids birthday party. [/ QUOTE ]eh, wait till they show up in NYC, DC, and NE, stadiums with much larger capacities. By-Tor, ESPN was reporting that front row seats were going for as much as 2k a pop. |

[ QUOTE ] Rob Stone: "There is no debate that Beckham is one of the best players ever." [/ QUOTE ] wow [/ QUOTE ] Actually it's a slight misquote as I DVRed it and watched it again. I meant to save it to get the quote 100% right and this occurred to me about a half second after deleting it. I believe it was "While there is no debating that Beckham is one of the greatest players ever, there is debate about whether he should play tonight." Unless your definition of one of the greatest ever is a couple hundred people or so there no way you can really argue that he's one of the greatest and it's certainly debatable if you can. Do even big Manchester United fans, such as KDawg, claim he's one of the best ever? Offhand, without really thinking about it he would probably go somewhere in the mid 100s. At that point it's somewhat pointless to actually rank people. Certainly he's had a very good career with several league titles, one Champions League title, a couple of domestic cups but his play for England other being very impressive in a couple qualifying runs has not been great, although a big part is the team as a whole underachieving. Also while I'm on this rant, I find it funny how much they talked up Capello benching him and him coming back and leading Real Madrid to their first title in 4 years. I think he was important in that run this year, but I also think it's no coincidence that it was their first title in 4 years and he signed with the club 4 years ago. |

BTW, I was more impressed with the Galaxy than I was expecting to be and will probably follow the MLS more after watching that and bits of the MLS all-star game as well as last year's final. The level certainly has improved from 4 years ago or so.
If there are others like me, that are soccer fans that don't really follow the MLS, moves like bringing in Beckham will get more people to follow the league. |

Re: ****Official Beckham Mania Thread****
I think in some contexts greatest can be very different than best.
It might not make too much sense, but Beckham = one of the greatest ever makes sense to me, while he is not one of the best ever. |

[ QUOTE ] anyone have thoughts on donovan missing an absolute sitter? [/ QUOTE ] Standard? [/ QUOTE ]The commentators cracked me up after that miss. Something to the effect "last time we saw Donovan playing in a high pressure game, he didn't perform well" Basically them saying on national TV that he has no balls. |

BTW, I was more impressed with the Galaxy than I was expecting to be [/ QUOTE ] Really? Chelsea absolutely dominated the game. LA had like 1 real chance in the second half. I've seen them have more trouble with teams in the bottom half of the EPL than with the Galaxy. |
