Great episode again last night. Still have no idea where this is going.

Watched the opening credits much more closely, and it 95% old surf footage, 3% skateboard, 1% U.S./Mexico border, and 1% galaxy exploding. Maybe the allusion is that the spirituality of the surfing/skating culture is akin to the cosmic forces which create/destroy the universe. Basically another exploration of "the source".

Also, Shaunie is fine, since most 13 year old kids mumble their way through their lives.

I like the show. It's confusing and weird as hell, but I am very interested to keep watching so I can figure out what is going on.

I still love Ed O'Neill. Easily the best character.

The kid who plays Shaunie is actually the real grandson of a surfing legacy family and a current prodigy. He is playing himself - he deserves a little bit of a break.

His dad and grandparents are consultants to the show.

They use a surfing double for Shaun? Why? I thought that was the whole point of him being in the show.

So far, I am very unimpressed.

What makes me come back each week is one lingering question: When did Rebecca De Mornay get so old? (and the corollary question -- When did I get so old?)

Yeah lol at the surfdouble. But I love his bad mumbly acting. Compare it to the screechy whining overacting of that kid in star wars, and those are your kid-acting options usually.

This show has no chance in my opinion, which sucks cuz I'd love to see where it's going, particularly with John: Alien, Prophet, or what?

Dude, RDM has been old.

Frankly I think she looks amazing for as old as she is.

Absolutely right. I grew up at the time of Risky Business and always considered her younger than she actually was. I thought she looked like a teen, but now that I looked back at photos of her in the days of Risky Business, she really didn't look that young then.

Anyway, I had the 1980s version of RDM in my mind when I first saw the cast for this show. When she showed up as a Grandmother, it rattled me.
