Not related to this bet of course, but from Negreanu's blog I believe, this is how Doyle plays against certain poker pros due to his leg and back condition.

Just using it as an example of how they try to make their wagers as good as possible.

Obviously bartering for strokes is the most common.

I'm sure he means he gets to tee it up from the fairway. They used to let Stuey do this too. He could tee it up from anywhere. The fairway, the rough, the sand...the water.

Yeah, I edited to say that I thought he teed it up on the fairway...but now that you mention Stuey, I hope I didn't combine Doyle's and Stu's stipulations.

to be clear:

you can use your driver whenever you want according to standard rules. that's not an advantage at all. and even if it wasn't normally allowed, today's driver's are basically impossible to hit off the ground.

if he gets to tee it up from anywhere, that's a significant advantage. being allowed to tee it up from the fairway is a very marginal advantage at best, at least for a decent player.

Confused about what?

In order for Doyle to wager, he gets to shoot from the reds while others shoot from the tips...to make it more of a fair fight.

I guess I'm not sure what you're confused about.

edit: Oh, it was the fairway driver part.

This was definitely Stuey's stipulation, not Doyle's. If Doyle has it, it's only from the fairway.

If you think a 10 handicapper could break par on ANY course you know NOTHING about golf.

[/ QUOTE ]

In my prime, I have shot from middle tees even par for 9 twice, and 4 over for 18 once. My average at the time was probably 10 over on fairly easy courses I had played many times. All it takes is a good putting day. I really question how much YOU know about golf.

this is nuts.

no chance that a true 15 handicap player has even a 30% chance of breaking par from the front tees at a TPC course (although summerilin is one of the easier ones).

i have played plenty of 9hole scambles myself (a 2-4 handicap at the time) and another comparable player would sometimes shoot around even or 1 under if we werent playing that well. granted that is from the back or next to back tees, but a 15 handicap has no shot at consistantly breaking par with 2 shots.
