I'm still trying to figure out why somebody would need to talk to a lawyer before deciding to oppose a law that is going to have a devastating impact on their customers and, consequently, on their own business.

How can 2+2 management be so ignorant and small minded? Are you guys really that unintelligent that to a critical threat to your business you fail to see the gravity of the situation, fail to think for your selves, and instead have to rely on a meeting with a lawyer to hash out a blanket statement that will serve no other purpose, issued by some guy on a trip over seas?

Why can't you write your own statement? Do you have no thoughts of your own on the issue? Are you actually in favor of online poker being legislatively obstructed and are trying to sandbag it?

At least though, we're clear that you oppose the PPA, that's definately very constructive of you.

At the very least you may want to consider answering to your forums clients with your own thoughts. Of course I guess you have no incentive to do so as we're still going to troll your forum whether you do or don't.

Such things reflect on your character however and are a reflection of your realm of mind. It's clear that perhaps you are failing in this area.

I'd like to reccomend to you do some self examination on your lifes moral philosophy and outlook and consider rectifying your self.

You can say what you want to about the PPA and NROG, but we do know one thing about them: at least they've done SOMETHING to oppose this bill, which is far more than Two Plus Two has done.

This thread wasn't about 2+2 supporting PPA.

This thread is about 2+2 doing something noteworthy on their own.

[/ QUOTE ]

grunching here because it's a long thread.

Not really sure what you expect them to do that would have much of an impact anyway.

I completely agree with Mason's ideas of not wanting to become affiliates with the PPA until he finds out more about it.

If they are extremely unprofessional and come up with crappy ideas then it's entirely possible they could actually do more harm than good.

I'm not saying the PPA actually IS doing more harm than good.
I'm just saying we don't even know.

No idea how professionally they represent themselves.
No idea if they contact senators and yell obscenities at them for being stupid.
No idea about a lot of this stuff.

Now, I believe that Raymer (and others) appeared before congress representing the PPA.
That carries a lot more weight with me that PPA is, at least, doing SOMETHING that I would perceive to be in the right direction.

But just saying, "We represent all poker players" doesn't really cut it for me.

How?
What exactly are you doing?
Is your strategy well thought out and absolutely the best one?

Or are you just kind of flying by the seat of your pants and just telling all your member over-and-over to 'call your senators now' every time you want to hit the panic button?

Without knowing THAT much about them I have to say that it feels a little bit like the last part.
"Everybody call now. Now is the time to panic!!"

I never really thought that all the phone-calls would make that much of a difference anyway and that there perhaps different approaches to be considered.

Since Mason and David aren't exactly lobbyists or the types to hang-out with senators on a regular basis (to my knowledge) I'm not sure they are that much more pivotal to the cause than anyone else.

If Mason and David decide that they didn't want to do too much organizationally about this because this law-making stuff is kind of unfamiliar territory to them and they really don't know what the best strategy would be then that seems a responsible choice to me.

If they don't want to support the PPA unless they can make SOME kind of judgement based on ANY ideas of the PPA's strategy that it would actually be a good idea to do so then I think that is also a responsible choice.

In short - I think it's really foolish to practically blame Mason and David for the ignorance of our nation's lawmakers.

I think it is more correct to blame the lawmakers themselves as well as those who voted them (and continue to vote them) into office in the first place.

We met this morning with our attorney Mark Tratos ... The thinking is that no bill will be passed until after the elections, and how the elections go may influence the final result.

[/ QUOTE ]

Quality advice ya got there. Good work Mark.

Translation of quote: We're not going to do anything. Let's hope it doesnt pass before the elections, then lets hope the Dems get in and we dont have to do anything. Let's hope that's how it goes. Hopefully.

If you had read Gambling Theory and Other Topics and spent some time correctly thinking about its content, you would already know Mason's life philosophy and understand that what you suggest is too self-weighting of an approach.

The way things are going, the statement will probably read as follows when it is finally ready sometime next year:

"We at Two Plus Two Publishing regret that the United States government has outlawed online poker, but we hope that people will continue to buy our books, because you never know when you might be able to go to a casino."

[/ QUOTE ]

Mason, so you won't have to continue to be statement-less while waiting for your globe-trotting lawyer to tell you what to think, you have my permission to use this statement, which I wrote the day before the bill passed. You don't even have to pay me for it, since thankfully you're about to have a dramatic decrease in income.
