There are lots of cover versions I like. But three absolute classics are:
Nina Simone - Here Comes the Sun (orig. by The Beatles) Soft Cell - Tainted Love (orig. by Ed Cobb) / segues into Where Did Our Love Go (orig. by The Supremes) Pet Shop Boys - Where The Streets Have No Name (orig. by U2) / segues into I Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You (orig. by Al Green). Anyone heard these? |

Anyone over the age of 12 has heard the Soft Cell cover (which really is pretty awesome), as it was actually a pretty big hit during its time.
I haven't heard the other two. |

Coil also covered Tainted Love. Their version is very slow and funereal, as if to encapsculate the sound of a generation of gay men dieing of HIV/AIDs. Not sure you'd want to listen to it often, but it's a good cover.

I hate to say this as a Bruce Springsteen fanatic, but I like Manfred Mann's cover of "Blinded by the Light" better than the original.
I also like Eric Clapton's version of "I Shot the Sheriff" more than Bob Marley's. |

I never, ever thought I would or could EVER say this about any Prince song, but Sinead O'Connor DESTROYS Prince's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U".
