I've never heard the cover but I can safely say you're wrong.

There are lots of cover versions I like. But three absolute classics are:

Nina Simone - Here Comes the Sun (orig. by The Beatles)

Soft Cell - Tainted Love (orig. by Ed Cobb) / segues into Where Did Our Love Go (orig. by The Supremes)

Pet Shop Boys - Where The Streets Have No Name (orig. by U2) / segues into I Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You (orig. by Al Green).

Anyone heard these?

Anyone over the age of 12 has heard the Soft Cell cover (which really is pretty awesome), as it was actually a pretty big hit during its time.

I haven't heard the other two.

Coil also covered Tainted Love. Their version is very slow and funereal, as if to encapsculate the sound of a generation of gay men dieing of HIV/AIDs. Not sure you'd want to listen to it often, but it's a good cover.

I hate to say this as a Bruce Springsteen fanatic, but I like Manfred Mann's cover of "Blinded by the Light" better than the original.

I also like Eric Clapton's version of "I Shot the Sheriff" more than Bob Marley's.

I never, ever thought I would or could EVER say this about any Prince song, but Sinead O'Connor DESTROYS Prince's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U".
