this thread actually proved to be one of the more interesting threads i've ever read on 2p2. at first i clearly thought ivey sucked as a person, but after getting all of this insight, i've sort of changed my mind. i guess i'm undecided, but i feel pretty bad for Ram.

gossip q: does anyone have any idea what percent of ram's wealth this is? it might be a huge percent.

also, this reminds me of that thread about the dude who tried to sue a casino for his gambling losses b/c they exploited his gambling problem. lol etc.

I had the same experience in the earlier threads. I am a golfer who at most might bet $20 a round. At first I thought Ivy was a cheat. Blair Rodman (and now others) made it clear that the type of betting that I do compared to that of professional golf gamblers is a totally different thing.

For those that say that Ivy cheated, you have to read the previous threads with Blair, and especially an article someone cited in a Las Vegas paper about golf gambling. It is clear that whether you win or lose is decided in the negotiations, and that everything is fair game in the negotiations. It is not uncommon for these types of golfers to carry 25+ clubs in their bags, and put grease on their clubs to eliminate hooks and slices. It ain't golf, it is gambling, and Ivy got the best of it this time.

I have no idea why people would be so stupid as to play golf for that much money based on a "handicap." Everyone who plays golf knows that you never play anyone who you don't play with regularly in a handicapped match. People can make up whatever handicap they want and no matter what happens there is always going to be tension. If one guy honestly does play to a 12 but goes out and shoots a 78 people are going to think you're a crook. You're in a no win situation. When I play a tournament at my club the results are a lot more fair than when we have a member guest type event. People shoot incredibly low scores as the member's partner is often playing under a false handicap. To go out with someone you haven't played with in a while and play a handicapped match is stupid to me and Ram deserves to pay whatever Phil beat him out of. Just call it an "idiot tax."

I think I posted something like this in one of the other threads, but I'm still confused as to how this situation:

A wants to gamble with B
B gets A to accept these conditions
A loses
A doesn't pay

= B is a scumbag

You missed out the bit where B lied to A to get him to accept the conditions. Some think the lying is acceptable and all part of the game, others disagree.
