[ QUOTE ] Kid on the dunes is nice. [/ QUOTE ] She's actually a friend/ex-coworker who's 50 years old. Acts like a kid a lot of the time though. [/ QUOTE ] This is by far the best photo in this thread, and there is some very very high quality stuff- I defenatly would have it on my wall. |

Did you use any special ighting on the flower? It almost seems luminous. The sharpness of the jets is awesome. The height of the Golden Gate with all the sky really makes the shot. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks a bunch! No special lighting on the Poppy. Good ole' mid-morning light... The bridge shot is one of my favorites. Shows how small it really is in the overall scheme of things... [ QUOTE ] Great photos guys. These threads me me really wish I could travel more, and make me die a bit more inside that I have no creativity or worthwhile hobbies. [/ QUOTE ] Believe me. I have no talent and little creativity. I only started taking photos more, (and payng attention), when I started blogging. It's a matter of taking 100 shots and getting one decent one. Give it a try. You might like it. [/ QUOTE ] It's a staggeringly awesome thing that these days, you can do that and spend nothing doing it, by going digital. Getting huge amounts of practice and experimentation in used to get very expensive very quickly. Digital is really freeing huge numbers of people up to explore photography in depth who just couldn't afford it before. Especially since this has become a world so strongly oriented toward and familiar with visual media, digital photography has the potential to make photography much, much more popular than it ever was. Heck, it probably already has. Add in how comfortable so many people are with photoshop and the like, and it's even easier for people to get really into photography, and for a reasonable price. |

Also, if you're inclined to mess around with Photoshop/ Digital imaging, the control you have is amazing. I think people don't realize that things like contrast adjustments and color cast changes have always been done- the problem for most casual picture takers was that this was done by the people printing their pictures- ie the drug store lab. If you wanted to have this control back in the day, you either shot slides (which are nice, but printing them is an expensive and rather difficult proposition if not done digitally), shoot black and white and do your own thing- color print developing and printing is quite a bit more complicated than black and white was. Even if consumer digital wasn't as good as 35mm film (and the arguement still rages, but I have very nice 20x30s from 6 megapixels, which is good enough for me), the instant feedback and control that digital gives to you make it very worthwhile. I really don't miss film.
