Ummm...

ok.

Do what works for you then.

duh.

I've abandoned the 10 buy-in rule through $50s and $100s anyway. I didn't step up to $50s until I have like 13 or 14 buyins, and didn't step up to $100s this most recent time until I had like 18 buyins. I stayed until I dropped down to 10, but I didn't start there. Next time into the $100s, I'll probably start with 15.

But seriously, the psychology of it all outweighs any possible statistical effect or loss of value. If you feel you're playing too thin, then you will almost certainly play worse than you would otherwise.

What works for me doesn't necessarily work for you.

dboy, I am sure you know what a -13 roi graph looks like.

TNixon: I don't know, I want to keep the faith. Even you stated that there was a 5% ror on it.

I AM able to stay calm. I was down to my last 15 dollars three days ago, ran it up to a pretty good clip, moved up, then all hell broke loose on a 20 bi downer. I feel like nothing works.

Ugh, I may as well stick with a 1000 bi roll.

The point of the BR strategy he talks about is to move up and down quickly. You should be moving down every time you're down a few buyins at the level... and so on. Weighting your br strategy as really deep when you get down to the bottom (5s and 10s) would be best imo. That way if you really are playing like [censored] you have almost no chance of going broke long term (as long as you fix tilt/leaks). Dropping 20 bi at one level (not sure if this is the case) should be impossible unless you're at 5s.

A 20 bi downer should be rare enough, especially at low levels, that there almost *has* to be something else going on. It'll happen occasionally, for sure, but shouldn't really be a common occurence.

There's likely a very prominent "running bad" component, but when that happens, it's definitely worth taking a few days and just looking over hand histories. When I did the same thing after my last huge downswing (and it was more than 20BI, it was more like 40 or 50, dropping down through *so* many levels 10BI at a time, all the way from $220s to $20s and even eventually $5s), I found lots of really sick beats and coolers, just a huge collection of the most disgusting [censored], that made me want to puke even watching replays of it, but I also found far more stupidity and tiltedness on my part than I expected to. Not saying that's the case for you, but it definitely was for me.

BTW, the potential value you lose for waiting even for 20 buyins is WAY more than 5%. It's more like 100%, or 150%. It really is that disgusting.

But like I said, if it's not working, then you have to either figure out why (maybe your win % is just low enough overall that your variance will be sick-high, I dunno), or you have to try something else.

Beating your head against a wall is way more -EV than waiting too long to move up is.

I do agree with this. I do agree that in aggressive br building. I did exaggerate a tad bit, it was an 18 bi downer. But here is what made it 19:

Full Tilt Poker, NL Hold'em Sit n' Go, 20/40 Blinds, 2 Players
LeggoPoker Hand History Converter

Hero (BB): 1,070
SB: 1,930

Pre-Flop: (60) A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] dealt to Hero (BB)
SB raises to 80, Hero raises to 240, SB calls 160

Flop: (480) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players)
Hero bets 360, SB raises to 1,690 and is All-In, Hero calls 470 and is All-In

Turn: (2,140) 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

River: (2,140) T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

Results: 2,140 Pot
Hero showed A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (a pair of Tens) and LOST (-1,070 NET)
SB showed K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (a straight, Jack high) and WON 2,140 (+1,070 NET)

This [censored] has been happening for the past two [censored] days.

And it seemed like today, that everyone I sat with was uber-lag with a horseshoe up their bums. AK vs K2? I try to find stuff to call with. I am almost always right, and sure enough.....

I am off the air for the next few days. I'm so [censored] aggravated.

Unfortunately, it gets worse.

Much worse.

:/

It's actually sort of amusing in a very sick, twisted way, how many of the regular posters here have gone through "screw poker, I'm quitting forever" phases in the LC threads.
