Just got back from a Lemonheads concert. Never been more pleasantly surprised about a show in my life. I went into it expecting a drugged out lead singer mumbling through some mediocre "hits" that were about 15 years old. Instead Evan Dando seemed really rejuvinated and excited to be on stage. I recommend them if they come around your way.

The new Modest Mouse is sick. I haven't been able to stop listening to it since I started.

Agreed. Faaaar better and less poppy then Good News in my opinion. Might become my second favorite to Lonesome Crowded.

Listened to the Friday Night Light's soundtrack twice yesterday at the gym and doing some research, and it always blows me away how perfect it is. I'm not sure if they got to see the movie beforehand or just read the script, but every song completely nails the scene, they all just fit so perfectly. Definitely up there on my all time movie soundtracks

I'll second that recommendation. There was a few weeks this fall where All This Time and Neko Case's Fox Confessor album were pretty much all I listened to.

I've pretty much had Neko Case on constant rotation for the last 2 weeks. [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Very much digging an album from 2001 I believe from the No-No's called Tinnitus.

Somewhere in their little Rhapsody bio it says they are from San Francisco so perhaps ElD knows something about them.
They don't appear to be active any more.

I've been listening to this album a lot the past couple weeks.

Also found a couple older New Zealand bands called The Clean and The Bats.
Sound is reasonably similar to many indie-rock bands of today imo. Pretty ahead of their time because their stuff was early-mid 80's.

Okay, I know I said I'd post a review, but I can't really find the time, so suffice it to say that the recent Besnard Lakes album is awesome.

Like Beach Boys meets Sigur Ros or something, I dunno. Good stuff.

i think this WWDBTSES is actually a really poppy album wrapped in a lot of other, um, stuff? Lots of distractors but definetly a poppy album. I also think it could be their best and is one of the best "indie" rock albums ive listened to in quite a while.

anywho, being poppy is not always bad.

Okay. This is such a ridiculous combination I just had to check them out.

Strangely enough, I think you're actually right.
Definitely more Sigur Ros of course. But some of their vocal harmonies definitely sound Beach Boys-ish.
This is weird.

I think I could like them. but now I can't get that damn Beach Boys impression out of my head. And I hate the freaking Beach Boys.
