hey man thanks for the contribution! [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I'm just a bitter Detroit fan reminding everyone that OPS and run differential don't always tell the whole story. This is especially true when an 82-win team featuring Jeff Weaver and Anthony Reyes in its starting rotation wins the World Series. |

Last night in the Phillies/Braves broadcast, the Phillies anouncer known endearingly as "Sarge" (Gary Matthews Sr)asserted that he does not get drunk when he drinks a bottle of wine during a full moon. Among his other beverages of choice are cognac or "a little cider."
Kalas then asked Sarge whether he knew if the moon had a similar effect on most people. In typical Sarge matter-of-fact fashion, he answered, "I don't know. You asked how it affects me." |

[ QUOTE ] Just because someone says something that turns out to be wrong in hindsight doesn't make it stupid [/ QUOTE ] It absolutely is stupid if the person says it definitively and without a hint of doubt. How about "He has the potential to be a franchise quarterback in the NFL." [/ QUOTE ] You are using 7 years of hindsight against someone who is doing live commentary. Its completely unreasonable to expect him to parse every phrase perfectly. |

How about "He has the potential to be a franchise quarterback in the NFL." [/ QUOTE ] That is dumb, LOTS of pro scouts thought Henson was going to be a franchise quarterback in the NFL. It would be stupid to say that about Henson today, but it was not at all stupid to say it back then. DUCY? |

Let's talk about stupid things again:
This weekend in college one one of the national games broadcast on the EC, the color guy said: 'If you have the lead late in the 4th Q, you can sometimes win by running the clock out.' Somebody get that guy a MacArthur Genius Grant! Of course, nothing tops the immortal "One of the ways to win in football is to outscore the other team." I don't think you can top that one. |
