True Romance. No-one I know seems to have watched this even though it is Tarantino penned.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is a great movie, but was not completed entirely with the Tarantino script. For almost the entire film, this followed the typical awesome Tarantino formula. Then, at the end, it skews off horribly. If you are a Tarantino fan you can tell the absolute second where the Tarantino script is dismissed. The movie from that point forward is awful. I suggest watching this, and then reading the script if you can find it. The script is so much better.

I thought Amelie was great, def not too popular in America.

http://imdb.com/title/tt0211915/

Delicatessen, another French movie is also quite interesting.

http://imdb.com/title/tt0101700/

Mulholland Dr. is also not popular enough for how freaking awesome it is.

Jisatsu Saajkuru (The Suicide Club) 54 high school girls throw themselves in front of a subway train. This appears to be only the beginning of a string of suicides around the country. Does the new all-girl group Desert have anything to do with it? Detective Kuroda tries to find the answer, which isn't as simple as one could hope

The Life of David Gale: Kevin Spacey stars as a death row inmate for the murder of one of his peers of an orginization that protests the death penality located in somewhere in the heart of Texas, I believe Wichita but don't quote me on that. A journalist and her colleague set out 3-4 days before he is scheduled to be executed and interview him on the events preceding his sentence. Lots of very great twists and turns in this movie and I've watched it several times now, definitely reccomend it.

I thought this movie was very good and had a pretty crazy ending. I also believe it's the only movie that Roger Ebert gave 0 stars.

[/ QUOTE ]
It's not the only one, but it definitely got zero stars.

When Ebert really hates a movie, he can rip into it with hilarious results.

[/ QUOTE ]

I just googled his review of the movie and it seemed like he thought it was good but was just offended by the ending, which is definitely understandable but I think the 0 stars thing is a little absurd.

I agree with Ebert on this one.
Life of David Gale was badly written and horribly acted.

My favorite movie no one has heard of is Long Gone. Baseball movie from the mid 80's, HBO I think, and it's awesome. Def one of the top 5 baseball movies ever, though nobody has ever watched it.

The hero's name is Cecil 'Stud' Cantrell, and is played by William Peterson.

The heroines name is Dixie Lee Boxx, and is played by Virginia Madsen.

A failing minor league team set in the deep south that involves a lot of drinking, womanizing, and racism. There are more one liners than I can count.

Minus the deep south thing, pretty much what Major League stole from.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hooray for the Tampico Stogies!!!

Along with William Pedersen and Virginia Madsen is a very young Dermot Mulroney as the naive rookie Jimmie Weeks.

It's not exactly the greatest baseball film ever but it's fun viewing imo.
I tend to think it was the predecessor to Bull Durham before there was Bull Durham more than it was related to Major League mostly because it's about life in the minors I guess.

Although Pedersen's character is definitely more like Tom Berenger's than it is Kevin Costner's so comparing it to Major League is valid too.

Pedersen declined the opportunity to star in Platoon to take the role of player-manager Stud Cantrell in Long Gone instead. Not sure that was such a hot idea.

I believe it was primarily shot at the old ballpark in Lakeland, Fla (which I have been to).

Yeah, my wife didn't enjoy it either. I think if you watch it bearing in mind that it's related to the key religions in Japan, as well as the huge social pressures there are there as well it can make a difference

It's definitely a Marmite Movie though!
