fire jim leyland [/ QUOTE ] I don't see why this injury is blamed on Leyland. Further, I looked at your blog and the 5-0/7-5 analysis is interesting, but, it seems to me, fundamentally flawed. |

[ QUOTE ] fire jim leyland [/ QUOTE ] I don't see why this injury is blamed on Leyland. Further, I looked at your blog and the 5-0/7-5 analysis is interesting, but, it seems to me, fundamentally flawed. [/ QUOTE ] so you use your ace reliever in two games that are already over, he comes up with a sore wrist immediately after the second appearance, they attribute the injury to "the repetitive act of pitching", and it's not leyland's fault at all? i'm not saying he's entirely to blame, but if zumaya were somehow allowed to sue leyland for this, he has the proximate cause down. on the analysis, i did ignore the factor of having to get three outs instead of one, and i didn't measure leverage perfectly, but it's not really important in a case like this which is not even close. although they should measure leverage a little differently, this is the exact kind of analysis MLB teams should be doing when deciding how to best deploy their top relievers. |

Zumaya threw 14 pitches on two days after throwing 3 pitches, and he had a 21 pitch performance the day before that. (I think I have that right).
The training staff thought he was fine to pitch and so did he and the pitching coach, apparently. The alleged triviality of his appearances doesn't matter, and no one knows what the future holds as far as when he'd be needed for a higher stress situation -- or whether performing in a lesser stress situation would be an asset should that day come. I'm not denying you've thought more and better about this than me -- my impression is that you're being unfair. |

[ QUOTE ] is it me or is oakland asking for time in this game more often than any team ever has? maybe they have a scouting report that verlander gets rattled easily by that. [/ QUOTE ] Verlander likes to work very fast, perhaps they were trying to mess up his rhythm. And Perez does suck, why wasn't Infante in the game?!? [/ QUOTE ] starting pitcher - righty, infante - righty perez - switch although perez does suck a lot. |
