Yeah, its a good deal, but hopefully you got it in a package with plenty of other channels. Those $5 don't buy you too much in March.

I don't get it.
I actually have the NFL Network on my cable package but they aren't showing the game anyway?
WTF?

Why aren't they going for 2 right now? I just don't get it. Especially with the fact that they could've gotten the ball on the 1 yard line with the offsides penalty.

[/ QUOTE ]

Doesn't work like that I believe. Otherwise it would've been the obvious choice. Also explains why the penalty can be enforced even after a positive play.

I'm sure the rule is in place this way to prevent blatant offsides jumping on extra points

what are you guys talking about?
Pretty sure they could have accepted the penalty and gone for 2 at the 1 yard line.
No different than a roughing the kicker penalty when the FG is good and the team deciding to take the points off the board and accept the first down.

Bob,

http://www.nfl.com/rulebook/try

1. After a touchdown, the scoring team is allowed a try during one scrimmage down. The ball may be spotted anywhere between the inbounds lines, two or more yards from the goal line. The successful conversion counts one point by kick; two points for a successful conversion by touchdown; or one point for a safety.
2. The defensive team never can score on a try. As soon as defense gets possession or the kick is blocked or a touchdown is not scored, the try is over.
3. Any distance penalty for fouls committed by the defense that prevent the try from being attempted can be enforced on the succeeding try or succeeding kickoff. Any foul committed on a successful try will result in a distance penalty being assessed on the ensuing kickoff.
4. Only the fumbling player can recover and advance a fumble during a try.

Is there a chance the game is blacked out in your area? Depending on how close you are to Atlanta, you won't be able to watch if the Georgia Dome isn't sold out.

good to know.

Nantz and Simms were apparently as in the dark as I was about this as they both seemed to believe they had the option to take it at the 1. Maybe that's the rule in college football.
I could swear I 've seen this happen before but maybe I'm just hallucinating.

No, I don't think that's it.
It appeared to me that some people who get NFL Network actually don't get the games or something. Weird.

There was something scrolling at the top of the screen during their pre-game show that said something like, "You cable carrier does not have our Thursday and Saturday night prime-time games package. You will not be able to watch our game coverage unless you live in the markets of one of the participating teams. Contact your cable operator and tell them you want to watch the games on NFL Network. Your calls can make a difference."

Wow, I expected better from Gumbell and Collinsworth. This is painful to listen to.

So why does Bryant Gumbel keep calling it an elephant backfield? What the hell is an elephant backfield?
