[ QUOTE ] So Torre is not going to put Rivera in for more than 3 outs a game, but he pitches him in a 4 run game? [/ QUOTE ] He had arleady warmed up, it's not really that bad of a mistake since he was already warming up(when it was a 1 run game). [/ QUOTE ] Oh, I was busy watching the Phillies blow their lead and missed that. |

with a $195 million payroll, anything except making it deep into the playoffs has to be considered a huge disappointment, right?
with that said, the yankees' roster looks nasty this year. the lineup has absolutely no soft spots (well ok, first base is questionable) and the pitching staff is above average too. |

He looked like a dude who has some decent stuff, gets a good amount of ground balls and should win 10 games for a team with as much offense as the Yanks, assuming he stays healthy. |

Today's game rained out.
It was reported on NY radio this morning that Damon's injury is "more serious" than originally thought and it could be a "long-term thing." So, how was Joe Torre going to fix this? HE WAS GOING TO HAVE [censored] CANO LEAD OFF Holy [censored], you'd think he knows enough to just bump everyone up a spot and put Melky in the 8 hole. Abreu-Jeter or Jeter-Abreu would be a killer 1-2. Instead, we put the guy projected to have the second-lowest OBP of all the original starters to leadoff. Good thinking. |

i don't think cano leading off is such a bad thing, so long as mattingly and the staff try to get him to draw some more walks. i think the mets have employed a similar strategy with reyes.
problem is, mattingly wasn't exactly rickey henderson when it came to patience at the plate. 20 more walks a year would make cano into a terrific hitter. |

[/ QUOTE ] Dude, have you not been watching the yankees? They've always worked completely backwards. Johnny Damon had the lowest OBP of all the starters last year and he led off. OBVIOUSLY you put the guy who had the second lowest OBP on the team in his spot. It's only logical. |
