Re: Poker In Colorado?
It's pretty silly to say that the game isn't beatable because other people are overtipping. Yes, it means that the fish who are overtipping are going to bust out faster, but I have seen no sign that the games are running out of fish. If you keep your tips reasonable -- 1$/pot, no tip for pots less than $15-20, and maybe a two dollar tip for really big pots if the dealer is doing outstanding work, there wont be $10 coming out of your pots.

[ QUOTE ]
There is no variation in 2/5 games up the hill. I would much rather put money on FTP then drive the hour up and back. It's next to impossible to beat the 2 5 game with rake and donks involved. [/ QUOTE ] The rake is bad. Donks are good. If you don't understand that the donks are good, you don't understand poker. I'm not going to claim there's a lot of money to be made playing Colrado poker. There isn't. The stakes are too low and the rake + jackpot drop + tip is too high. Loose play increases the EV and the variance. |

Re: Poker In Colorado?
As someone who has lived in CO his whole life I echo the thoughts that those games are not long term beatable... and not because the lack of skill.
The 5/5 choice game is about the only game there I think you could sustain a win rate. |

Re: Poker In Colorado?
The best thing about the 2-5 spread limit structure is the fact that you can raise from $2 to 7$ preflop. People seeing the flop with any two for $2 in that game along with 6 or 7 (or 9) other players aren't making too big a mistake if they play somewhat rationally postflop. OTOH, if they see the flop for $7 with trash they are making a huge mistake. A fair number of players will fold facing $7 cold, but very few will fold after limping for $2. Unlike a structured game, sometimes you should fold to a raise after limping in. Better of course, to play tight in EP so you don't get in that position too often. Also, if you are in LP with lots of limpers, you should be seeing a lot of flops for $2.

Even for $7.00 as you can start betting the higher amount on the flop if you hit a set. They are easy to dump with overs in the game. |

[ QUOTE ]
To the OP, read up on NL games. A large stack is a DISADVANTAGE, not an advantage. The disadvantage, is having to play very deep poker against other larger stacks, but still having to deal with short stacks. A short stack just plays short stack poker against all others. Only in tournament play is a larger stack an advantage since you normally can not reload chips, in a cash game if you loose your chips, just go back into your pocket and reload. -dennisa [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: Poker In Colorado?
The thing is, that with N/L games, you can at least bet enough to get a majority of the truly 'crap' hands out of the pot before the flop.
Here in Colorado, that's not an option, because pre-flop, the max bet here you can go (unless it gets re-raised which it seldom does), is 7 bucks. If someone called the original 2, you can bet your sweet bippie that they will call the other 5 as well. |

Re: Poker In Colorado?
People calling your raises with crap hands? Sounds unbearable.
Earlier in the thread someone asked if a 40-80 game where the norm was capped multi-way pots was beatable if $160 was taken out of every (large) pot. That game sounds not just beatable but juicy, provided you are rolled for it. |

Re: Poker In Colorado?
CincyLady, I recommend you not continue with your current line of reasoning wrt why the $2-5 games suck. Also, ask someone who has passed a writing class to write any future letters to your government representatives for you. I mean this in the nicest possible way.
