Re: getting myself into trouble again
I like how you played it. With a villain who, could be ready to make a stand, BvB where you'll generally get played at light, and you gave him the illusion of FE, there is a good chance he's making a play, trying to get value with JT-KT, or semibluffing 88/77. Considering those factors and that you only need to be good 33%, I think the call on the end is good.

Button ($24.75) JBG ($30.90) BB ($31.40) UTG ($35.35) Preflop: JBG is SB with 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG calls $0.25, Button calls $0.25, JBG completes, BB checks. Flop: ($1) 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players) JBG checks, BB checks, UTG checks, Button checks. Turn: ($1) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players) JBG bets $0.75, BB folds, UTG raises to $1.5, Button folds, JBG calls $0.75. River: ($4) 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) JBG bets $4, UTG raises to $8, JBG raises to $29.15, UTG calls $21.15. Final Pot: $62.30 utg was 36/0/0.3 but only 30 hands I've got a few questions on this hand. I think the flop checking is standard and leading out after turning 2 pair is good as well since most likely I have the best hand. (Probably should have made it a PSB actually.) I know I'm most likely behind on the turn when this guy insta min-raises, but is my call ok anyway? I figured I was getting 4.3-to-1 direct odds and the most likely hand for UTG is a flush, a straight, or a draw. I think I have 4 clean outs unless I got real unlucky and UTG has 66 or a poorly played 88 so I'm a litte worse than 9-to-1 to hit my miracle. The only hand I'm worried about on the river is a very poorly played 88 but I think all things considered it's a trivial 3-bet shove here? |

Re: getting myself into trouble again
jb,
i think the 30/0 puts a huge number of overpairs, top pairs, etc., into his range. if he has 88, so be it. i think you played it exactly as i would (i was about to say perfectly, but i don't 'know' if it was) |

Re: getting myself into trouble again
I dunno doc, doesn't make much sense to me.
I really don't get the c/r calls a shove line. If I'm willing to stack off with this hand, wouldn't bet calling a shove, or b/3bet shoving make more sense? The c/r call shove line really reduces his bluff frequency. |

Re: getting myself into trouble again
FD,
How much is he defending with 78, 89, 9T? If he is very likely to flat call those hands preflop he has a lot of hands that are ahead and his flop and turn play make sense with pretty much any hand that beats you. He doesn't have a lot of hands to float on the flop that are behind you so he has to 4 bet bluff the turn with hands like AJ, 77, 88 a really high percentage of the time for you to have reasonable equity. Maybe you have been going at each other hard enough that he would think any Ten is the nuts here, but it would have been hard to float JT or QT on the flop. QJ is the only semi-bluff here, but that would have been hard to float as well. Your range is certainly going to include the straight or a FH here (96s too) so it's not like he's going to be anywhere near sure you are full of it. Is there any reason he would think your c-raise is more suspicious than your common 2nd and 3rd barrels? I'm definitely leaning against, but if you say all the right things about villian it might be ok. |

Also, typically you play a hand like this with the idea of forcing people off their hands, NOT primarily with the idea of making a big hand and stacking them - that's more of a backup plan, you simply don't make good hands often enough. So you should be less willing to enter the pot if, as here, you suspect people are not in the mood to lay their hands down. - On the flop, if you think you're losing to CO, fold! If he's beating you, you must have a maximum of 3 outs and have nowhere near pot or implied odds to continue. - I would fold again on the turn, you have about the right pot odds to draw to the open ender, but negative implied odds because your hand is really obvious if you hit, yet you won't know whether it's good. - River is whatever, just call now you're here. |

Villain in this hand is Creat!ve, 22/19/5 ~1k hands, def good and v. aggro. He views me as v. aggro and during this session i have been 3-betting a ton, and firing 2nd and 3rd barrels a lot, no one has looked me up on any table he is on. This is the 3rd orbit in a row i have opened his BB, and i have won both others w/o showdown.
