Some of my favorite thoughts from tonight by the nation's best broadcast team:


- Kevin Burkhardt had commented how he spoke to a Philadelphia reporter who compared watching this Phillies team win ballgames to watching a high-wire act because of the pitching staff.

Gary Cohen: "Every fly ball in that park is like a high-wire act."

LOL Gary. every fly ball? Really? There are no cans of corn at CBP? You're worried that every fly ball is going to be a "home-run?" Is it really that much smaller than Shea? Do you write your own material?


- Ron Darling, not more than an inning later, upon hearing the Phils are up 3-0 in the 5th: "Wow, a nice job by Redding vs. the Phils tonight, especially in that ballpark."


LOL So Ron, there has never been a 3-0 game in CBP in the 5th before? Is it always 15-14 by that time? Is it not as big as Big Shea? At this point in the game your team is down 7-3, and three (3) balls have been hit out of Shea. LOL what a [censored] bandbox.


- Ron, later, upon hearing Gordon is warming up for Philadelphia: "Wow, if the Phillies make the playoffs, I wonder if Gordon, Myers and Romero's arms are going to fall off."

LOL What about your OWN [censored] BULLPEN? YOUR TEAM USES EIGHT (8) MEN OUT OF YOUR PEN EVERY [censored] NIGHT YOU [censored].


so, in conclusion, Gary et al., why don't you just go ass-[censored] each other (plus reacharound) on top of the HOMERUN! apple behind the outfield wall while Kevin Burkhardt gives you a golden shower from atop the out of town scoreboard. you [censored] clowns.

Another great game tonight. Afterwards we went to McFaddens to watch the Mets lose. Wagner drew lots of, um, love from the Philly faithful. Place went nuts with the last out. Good times.

Going again Sunday. A couple weeks ago, I wondered if the game would matter and we would still be in it. Now I'm wondering if it will matter or if we will already have won it. Amazing.

Padres came back to win.

Mets start at ~1pm EST tomorrow. Phils ~ 4pm. Hopefully by the time the Phils start their game, we'll find out we've clinched at least a tie for the division lead.

No such animal. They would play a one game playoff in Philly Monday (home field settled by toin coss a few days ago).

In fact, there is such an animal. MLB holds one-game playoffs only when losing the tiebreaker results in a team being eliminated from the playoffs. Here are all the official tie-breaker scenarios:

Two Teams Tie for Division, Loser is Wild Card (not possible for NYM):
- Team with the best head-to-head record wins Division, loser is Wild Card (see BoSox/Yankees)

Two Teams Tie for Division, Also Tied With Third for Wild Card (PHI/NYM/SD could do this):
- Team in Division tie with best head-to-head record wins Division
- Losing Division team plays one-game playoff for Wild Card, home team per coin flip

Three Teams Tied for Wild Card (could happen for SD/NYM/COL):
- Teams draw lots (A,B,C). Team A plays at Team B. Winner plays at Team C for Wild Card. (A case of C > B > A)

Break Division ties first, then Wild Card.

There is another further tiebreaker; something like best record over last 81 games. Then 82 if still tied. Then 83, etc.

Phillies hold the tiebreaker over the Mets. Phillies won the coin flip with the Mets, and lost to the Padres, not sure about Rockies.

Go Phils.
