One possible train of thought with a check/minraise is a mediocre hand looking for a cheap showdown.

It's kinda grasping at straws, but in this spot you don't need a lot of straw.

Also, his being passive is good because you can so easily fold to a reasonably sized river bet.

this seems like more reason to not play like nits, so that when people raise you, they don't always have the stone cold nuts.

Check raising out of position in an attempt to showdown cheaply??

I assume you guys are talking about the AA on 89T board. The check minraise often induces a player to check at least one street, making it effective in that goal.

However, that "100 FR" in your location is ominous. Full ring cash NL is the work of the devil. Learn to play 6 max and you'll be able to play anything.

We were talking about the J7 hand. I have no idea what microbet was talking about though.
