Bob Dylan-

Folk - Rock - Country - Gospel - Hip-Hop - Folk

I may be missing a few genres in there, and the hip-hop is obv. a joke, but the man has changed gears, both musically and vocally, many times in his career.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've always been a huge Dylan fan. I don't think he has "drastically" changed styles. His music was just always very personal and outside any particular branded style. If you are suggesting that Dylan was ever a true "gospel" or "country" musician, then I think the labels gospel and country becomes meaningless.

Metallica went from thrash to warmed over crap in the span of three albums.

They were never really thrash. They were certainly never warmed over crap.

Nyet. Unless you make up your own new definitions for "pure heavy metal".

2) Michael Bolton. Before he was the second coming of the white soul singer he was signed as a heavy metal artist. He switched because he started working with a producer as a demo singer to make some extra bucks, they sold a jingle or two, and the producer (Kieth Diamond - RIP) pitched the idea to the label who authorized the switch in genres. If you think he was a cheese soul singer then you really have to check out the cheese wizz he spread thick when he was a metal singer in the early 80's.

Jewel. She like turned into a different person around 2003 or so.

Aphex Twin has made several radical changes in his career. He's obviously incredible at any style he chooses, but if he would put out Selected Ambient Works vol. 3, I could die at peace.

I just opened this back up to mention Jewel. As far as I recall I've never even heard any of the stuff since she changed. Wasn't it to some kind of dance music or something?
I just took a look at her website and apparently she's got a country album coming out. WTF.
