I couldn't find anything with Hope Sandoval singing Sweet Jane. Perhaps you were thinking of The Junkies' rendition. [/ QUOTE ] Never seen the videos but Cowboy Junkies are by far my most played band/music over the last ten years or so. A few samples: Misguided Angel from their first album Trinity Sessions. Great sparse, haunting sound on, recorded in one day in an empty church. Sun Comes Up Its Tuesday Morning from my personal favorite album/CD Caution Horses. Polished version of Angel Mine. Forget the album but I know I've got it If you like their style and Margo Timmons voice you find the CDs don't have a bad cut. Great thread! ~ Rick |

Diana Krall SERIOUSLY deserves to be in this thread. I dig the jazz.
Covering Joni Mitchell's Case of You. One of my favorite vocals. Ever. Covering Just the Way You Are Devil May Care Big piano intro. And here's some Eva Cassidy for kicks: http://youtube.com/watch?v=JGE_Fd9B6-4 http://youtube.com/watch?v=bSUGe-tVaJ4 |

Re: Impressive female vocalists
There is really only one Queen - Aretha Franklin. I could link a ton of performances, but check out her version of Willie Nelson's song "Night Life" - http://youtube.com/watch?v=KTXpXO6jQHg
Iris DeMent's voice is incredible. Here is "Our Town", on which she is accompanied by Emmylou Harris - http://youtube.com/watch?v=FikZwgj89HI Emmylou Harris is one of the great Americana singers of all time. Here is a good performance with Steve Earle of "Goodbye" - http://youtube.com/watch?v=bjTSRJLn1...ed&search= Some old school gospel from Mahalia Jackson - "How I Got Over". The video has some scratchiness, but I think that adds to the appeal - http://youtube.com/watch?v=l49N8U3d0Bw Mary Gauthier is rough a/k/a Lucinda Williams. Her album Mercy Now is incredible. Here is the title track, with Katrina footage as the background - http://youtube.com/watch?v=e5MG1ZfFiZ8 |

Re: Impressive female vocalists
Love Emmylou and Lucinda but don't know if many people have heard of Gauthier. Her CD "Mercy Now" is strong all the way through. Another poster mentioned the cut "I Drink" which is great and well written but "Falling Out of Love" is the best song on the CD.
