yeah, BP adjusted stats puts Clev, Detroit and MN all within 2.5 games with MN running slightly bad and Detroit/Clev running good, I didn't look at the adjusted standings before the post, after seeing them I feel better

hopefully Mauer will come back healthy soon, and one of the tripleA pitchers will mirror Liriano's performance from last year

I read a note somewhere today that bringing Slowey up before June could make him eligible for arbitration a year earlier which makes me think that won't happen.

/edit so hopefully Baker can keep the ball down when he comes up this time.

Baker has good stuff + pretty good control. When he came up in '05 he started 9 games and finished the year with an ERA of 3.35.

In '06 his K and BB rates actually improved but finished his run in the majors w/ an ERA of almost 7.00. What changed? I think it was a combination of two things. First, he had trouble keeping his pitches down in the strike zone (especially his sinker). His LD% didn't really increase but his GB% decreased which isn't good for him since his best pitch is likely his sinker. This is also probably the cause of the large jump in his HR rate.

Second I think he just ran bad. He had a BABIP of something like >.350 which is pretty high. I'm sure the first problem had something to do with this, but that still sounds like running bad to me.

Basically, I'm excited to see him get another shot as I think he could develop into a solid 3/4 type starter for us.

He's a sinkerballer-type pitcher, so his strikeout totals will be fairly low.
