I second the Voxtrot self titled album. I hadn't heard of them until recently, but it's really good

I haven't heard much of the National, but I think Boxer is something that will grow on me. Only got through it once, liked it but nothing really jumped out at me

Also wanted to say that I am super excited about the new Spoons album coming this summer.

tops on my list next to the new Flaming Lip album.

To give this post some redeeming value, the following acts were awesome at Coachella: Bjork, LCD Soundsystem, Girl Talk, Of Montreal, Hot Chip, and the New Pornographers. Points deducted for no Neko Case, though. Girl Talk in particular is something you must see live to appreciate.

Got The National cd, I like it, but it doesn't really stand out too much to me. I've listened to it a few times because I don't personally have much music like that, but I can't say I'd ever be like "omg i have to go to that show!"

I downloaded (free, legal) Lil Wayne's new mixtape (Da Drought 3) yesterday and it is really really good.

mason,

I agree with you on the Dino Jr album. It's probably their 2nd best album. Now if they would only stop in Philly on their next tour. I'm glad to see that some of the younger generation still likes this kind of music

jeeez, 42it, since you wont stop w/ the dinsaur jr album i finally got it. what are you their press agent?

only given it a few listens to although it sounds pretty good. i have 'green mind' and 'where you been' from way back when and it's good to hear that sound again.

Heh. They were probably my favorite band in college and I saw them on their reunion tour about 18 months ago. I just can't seem to find anything these days that sounds as good as this (at least to me).

Green Mind and Where You Been do not even feature the original line up (but are still very solid). Get You're Living All Over Me or Bug to hear some old stuff with the Lou Barlow influence.

i saw them touring on their 'where you been' album. it cost me $4 which was weird because they were somewhat well known then. it was a concert on campus so that might have had something to do w/ it. an acquaintance of mine helped organize the event and i remember he told me their contract stipulated that the band was to have a fresh pair of socks after the show was over. just a strange memory i have of the event other than the show being really good.

i have some other Lou Barlow stuff but nothing w/ his early Dino jr work. ill check it out some time.

It's an album that grows on you. Alligator was the same way.

Call Me Irresponsible
Michael Bublé

i previously had no concept of the guy's music, i had only heard the name in mainstream media as a big up-and-coming singer. but this guy live on american idol was possibly the biggest joke of a live "professional" performance that i have ever seen. just horrible.

[/ QUOTE ]

He is really good, but yeah. His performance on AI was one of the most pretentious live appearances I've ever seen. He was pretty much saying "Nobody who watches AI will appreciate me anyway so I'll just put 1% effort into it and just roll my eyes at the whole thing." He lost me as a potential fan, because what I had heard I really liked.
