here's what i recommend. just say "i play poker for a living," saying that in an extremely detached, almost resigned tone. in this way you should avoid sounding cocky, but still come off mysterious, secure.

like in your example, don't let them weasel it out, like it's something you're uncomfortable getting into. just say that straight away, "i don't go to school. i play poker for a living."

and if that still doesn't work, think about taking on some other work/studies/interests, because maybe it's what you actually want.

ive found that when im having that conversation and the person isnt quite getting it, it helps a lot to mention that you were just in the bahamas or wherever playing in a WPT event.

I generally get way more of a reaction out of people telling them that I played in the 2006 WSOP ME than telling them I play for a living. I think probably the most balla thing you could say to a normal person is "I play the WPT circuit".

That's actually a REALLY good thing. I don't know the nuances of your financials, but I'm thinking you are pretty damned well off. To be able to not buy everything in sight is pretty rare when money is flowing in at a young age.

You should probably buy something really nice for yourself though. You have worked hard (I'm assuming) and it would be nice to have something to show yourself. Buy a house.
