[ QUOTE ]
Fukken,

A friend of mine had told me about your challenge the day you posted it to give me something to focus on. He mentioned this after I had just finish ranting to him for an hour about my worst downswing ever and how I just couldn't seem to focus anymore. So, with some convincing I decided to try and replicate your challenge myself.

I knew this was not going to be an easy feat to drop down after just suffering my worst swing ever at the 25/50NL through 200/400NL. Yes, a bad run at these stakes is hundreds of thousands of $$$$$$. No, I'm not close to busto either, but sigh.. that's a lot of damn money. Instinctively, I want to keep high rolling and get all my lost money back, but my confidence had been shaken and I know it was affecting my game as a result. So, your challenge became a sort of damage control for me.

So, with all that said, I did start the same day as you, Feb 11th, however I felt that $1000 and the .50/1 was a little too low, and severely hurt my chances of accomplishing this feat. I decided to start with with roughly $3000 at the 2/4, as I felt that starting with the extra $2000 would save me about a week. Also, I wasn't sure if I could adjust to the playing styles as low as the .50/1 right off and it may bog me down early. I'm using a similar structure as you (move up with approx 9 buyins for the next level, etc), but I'm also trying to use optimal table selection to minimize variance, and if this sometimes requires playing lower stakes (i.e. 3/6 or 5/10 if i technically have the roll for 5/10 or 10/20), then so be it.

I was going to announce my attempt at this right after your original post, however, I decided didn't know if I could handle the pressure of everyone watching my progress or lack thereof. I have a lot of respect for you in announcing this and putting that pressure on yourself.

I am happy to say, after my first week. I have turned $3,000 into $21,000. Had I not had so much success, I wouldn't even bother posting this. By no means has the reaching of 21k in the first week any indication of my final outcome, but it sure is a damn good start. I put in a lot of hours, (especially at the $2/4 and $3/6, which I had never actually played on Fulltilt before until this past week). I played anywhere from 6-10 hours per day.. I'd say roughly 3k-5k hands a day (although I took last night off to go out and get drunk and laid.. this should be a separate trip report). I think I've gone on a pretty good run, but I'd like to think that my intense concentration on the goal and near complete lack of tilting has been the primary result of my good run, cause believe me I've still taken plenty of sick beats. Also, I had a lot of help from a tilting Renia on FTP lately in a HU match. I'm not sure I'll be quite so fortunate to have such a scenario lined up in the weeks to come. I'm a timebomb when it comes to tilt too.. so anything can happen. But this challenge really has me focused, and focus does help squash the tilt urges.

Best of luck to you. Since I don't have a blog, I may just keep posting here once a week with an update on my results too, good or bad.

Wow, you played $200-400NL crazy.

Hey good luck with your challenge.

I went busto, after running it into $4000.

I ran unbelievable bad at $400NL. Then I played bad. Moved down to $200NL-- ran bad again, didnt move back down and went busto.

I am not going to put anymore money online again. I want to see what becomes of the online poker world in the next 2-3 months.

I also have deleted the blog.

The best part about this is, I am glad to be taking a well needed break from poker.

Good luck to everyone else with their challenges..

too bad, could have been fun to watch. But it did kinda look from the other days that you did not have the "patience" or "focus" to make it work.

Anyway it was a cool idea

I think the former is just about impossible because of the time constraint.
