Re: Clemson @ Va Tech (10/26)
I realize this is a bit late in the game, but I'm pretty sure a 'trap game' is a game where you are coming off some kind of huge win against a tough opponent and you are now playing a cupcake team that you should be able to beat with the 3rd stringers.
The other type of 'trap game' is when you are playing a cupcake team the week before a huge matchup and you get caught looking down the road towards next week. So please tell me if I'm wrong, but I think the definitions of 'trap game' in this post are silly. I mean come on, bookies 'trapping' bettors? And yes, a lot of people in this forum should stick to footbal cards. Some of the stuff posted here is just ridiculous. Performify, MT2R and a couple others are the exception to the rule, of course. I also like the guy who bet 70+ units on one game and gets harassed every week, but not in a professional handicapping sort of way. |

[ QUOTE ] The thing is that everyone said all the other Thursday games this year were traps when everyone was on the favorites, but those favorites covered. [/ QUOTE ] That's because the books were trapping you into getting trapped for bigger $$ on this game. Duh. [/ QUOTE ] NH |

I have no idea if it's accurate, but defining a trap simply as a factor (described above) to be considered in certain games, along with all other factors, seems reasonable. I also agree with 27offsuit that the notion of the bookies "having more information than us" and trapping the public into wagering on a certain side -- to put it nicely -- is nonsensical and reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the way the bookmaking business operates and generates profit. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yep, those damn bookies knew what was going to happen in that Jax at Philly game and they trapped us into taking Philly! Damn! If only we could get someone on the inside when the bookies hold their weekly conference call in which they decide which games to trap us on... |
