STP - Big Bang Baby [/ QUOTE ] They never went downhill, imo. Id pay more for a STP reunion concert than any band in the world. VR is okay, but having followed STP since Mighty Joe Young days, the whole was bigger than the parts, even though SW is the largest part....and the best front man in rock since Paul Rodgers (for voice) and Diamond Dave (for show). |

Being musically retarded must suck. [/ QUOTE ] It's actually pretty enjoyable because you just enjoy whatever sounds good or catches your attention in some other way. What a concept eh? It HAS to be more fun than being a music snob. |

Tom Petty- Learning to Fly [/ QUOTE ] Ridiculous, IMO. Tom Petty has so much good music that I would take his worst song as voted on by everyone on this forum and listen to it 5 times a day for the rest of my life. I expect myself to start going downhill (I'm 24) before Petty's music does. |

Re: Songs that made you realize your favorite band was going downhill
Meh - I haven't listened to Metallica in a long time, but I was a huge fan -
All the songs on The Black Album sound the same. Metallica were never great lyricists - but that album is full of a lot of [censored] too. It has nothing to do with being 'cool' - I got into Metallica in 1998, way after the Black Album and way after I heard anything about them selling out - I thought The Black Album wasn't very good, and the earlier stuff was way better. I actually like Load better than The Black Album, but it's a totally different band at that point, and some of those songs are abysmal. |

[/ QUOTE ] Def Leppard Pre-Hysteria=AcDc Def Leppard Post-Hysteria=Mr. Mister I realize they sold a gazillion albums so I'm sure they weren't shedding too many tears that they lost me and couple other dorks as fans. It was just my first experience as a kid watching a band wuss out and it actually started a big trend of hard rock bands wussing out which made it all the worse. And I wasn't a Metallica/Slayer-type thrasher rock guy either so my standards of wussing out were pretty lenient. |

Re: Songs that made you realize your favorite band was going downhill
The obvious one that comes to my mind is "Drive" by Incubus.
SCIENCE rocks the world, and Make Yourself is pretty damn good, too. I actually like "Drive," but once it hit top 40, you knew it was over. Morning View pretty much confirmed it, IMO. In response to the "Adore" critiques, I agree, but it should be noted that Jimmy Chamberlain didn't play on that album, and I think Machina was a nice return. But strictly speaking, it did trigger the descent. Van Halen--easily all of VH3. Of course, I am a Van Hagar guy, and I love F.U.C.K., so its pretty obvious where I come from on this one. Fuel--"Bad Day" I loved this band. Saw them twice supporting Sunburn. Something Like Human is top to bottom a superb guitar rock album, but this track solidified Brett Scalions transition from supporting guitarist and singer to Front Man. Saw them again a year following the release of SLH and he played guitar on only one song--you guessed it. He came out in a Kid Rock-esque full length coat, sunglasses, and cowboy hat. Completely lost all the interplay between the guitars, and the songs were dreadfully empty. I have to admit, I cried a little at that show. |

Foo Fighters. I can't nail the exact song where I started to lose faith but it was somewhere between "One by One" and "In Your Honor".
Hoobastank. The reason ruined them. |
