We don't have toll roads at all in the west coast.

Highways tend to be inner state, freeways bridge states- that's how I've always seen it.

I could be wrong though...

it seemed to me like a "rectangle is square, square isn't a rectangle" thing too. i must say that i'm not surprised that nobody defined the difference between the two while insisting that there was a difference. i'm sure they may be different things by virtue of, for openers, being spelled and pronounced differently. but the definitions of these things seem to be nebulous at best.

dids, i always took your example to be the difference between an interstate (highway) and a highway. i believe interstate highways are always numeric and referred to as "I" whatever or "interstate" whatever.

astro, daryn:

I just read Al's link which explains things clearly.

"a highway that would be free of encroaching properties and which provided for control of access."

That is a key part of what makes a freeway a freeway. A highway can also have things like stop lights, intersections, etc.

It's standard in a lot of areas (not so much in the US I've noticed) to stand on the right side and let people walk up the left side. That way everyone is happy.

We need good ideas how to put pressure on those left or middle standing blockers. I usually start with stomping loudly, when I'm reaching those lazy fat people. Maybe some coughing to their necks?

Maybe escalators are different, but here in California I've never been on an escalator wide enough to have a Left, middle, and right. Not to mention they only go up one story. What's the hurry to get to the 2nd floor in the mall? Those 4 seconds you save are going to accomplish....?

How are you going to cough on their necks? You'd have to be 7' tall and on the step behind him... give them some fkn space.
