I drive a BMW Z4 (21) and I get lots of smiles all the time. People honk and wave, roll down their windows to chat at stop lights, etc. They tend to see me for what I am - a kid having a great time cause I'm lucky enough to drive a sweet car.

As for OP, whenever I see a guy driving a Viper I just wish he was my dad.
