all,

you guys spend a lot of money. I spend $2k a month if I stayed in one spot. Including all my travel expenses and other non-normal [censored] I spend on average $3.5k per month. I also make over 10x that though. I can't imagine spending $3k per month if I made less than $6k... yikes!

duck,

New York doesn't count but still $8k is a lot woman [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

nation,

coach me?

seriously, i'd consider not playing poker anymore. Doesn't look like you are cut out for it.

all (again),

You guys need to save more money. It's amazing to me how many people appear to not put the great majority of their earnings into index funds or some other high-yielding investment.

idiot who didn't think inflation exists,

it does. you aren't retiring in 20 years on $50k/year. sorry to burst your bubble.

try reading next time rather than skimming. i know ur hourly rate is > 500/hr but if ur going to post actually try.

@ 5.15% interest, contributing 12k/year through poker only.

edit: that's on the low side, compounded interest yearly. ING compounds interest monthly.

[/ QUOTE ]

Did I miss something here? Figure a real 2% per year and this changes a lot. Also, even if it was a real $400k, that is $16k/year to live on for the rest of your life. I guess it's possible but jesus.

[/ QUOTE ]

i'm just making sure u understand that i never said i didn't expect inflation to affect me. all my post stated was that in a vaccuum with 12k pumped into a 5.15% interest bearing account i can expect $X after 20 years. whether i can retire on that or not is up for debate, especially given that i also have a ROTH IRA and unknown profits those 20 years while working full time.

that's all.

wow u may be a winning player, but ur sure are an [censored].

i've heard it's possible to improve at poker. or maybe u were born with a 200 iq and nobody should ever doubt u. lol who knows.

From what I understand, nation has been at this a while and hasn't seemed to improved much (been at 1/2 full-ring for a while). Also couple this with his admitted lack of discipline and I don't think this is for him. I like nation as a person, but I've never thought much of him as a poker player and always found it a little lol he is coaching people. Friendly jab and it wasn't meant to be mean. Like I said, nation is one of the posters I generally like.

Apologies then. I misunderstood what was being posted. I admit to skimming the thread lightly.

UptownExpress,

I regularly come of like an ass due to both my horrible attempts at humor that get lost over the interwebs (or were never funny to begin with) and the fact that I actually am an ass. The fact you called a duck a duck doesn't mean you have to apologize. I just felt like for once actually explaining myself so people might realize I'm not trying to bring nation down and would actually like to help him out and see him do well for himself.

TheMetetron have you never went out on a weekend, blew hundreds on drink, thousands on gambling and tens of thousands on strippers, blow and hookers? This is what spending $21k/week is ABOUT.

Yes on the first 2, no on 3. That doesn't mean it is something people should actually be doing. I was dumb once too, I admit that.

qft dude. im not lying when i say this was one of the reasons i dropped out of law school. i hate dressing up with a passion that defies reason. i haaate it. im so uncomfortable all day, it takes ages to dress in the morning, i hate ironing, i hate tucking in shirts, i hate looking like a [censored] muppet. if i go to grad school and become a professor, they let professors wear jeans right?

[/ QUOTE ]

i was in oceanography grad school... teachers wore shorts, flip flops, and tshirts.... or if they were "serious" hawaiian shirts
