Snowbank, I think this is a pretty cool idea, and while I agree with a lot of the more pessimistic points made in this thread, there are a good handful of extremely smart homeless people in any given city. Go find homeless guys who play chess.....some of them are very very good, and they are the types who would be able to grasp poker quite well I think. They are also the least likely to be crack smokin' swindlers.

I'm thinking of maybe approaching some charities for like kids in need or something like that, and talking to them about teaching some of their most in need/smart kids poker, instead of homeless people. Thoughts? Any ideas for organizations to approach?

I think there's a "Youth Wire Fraud Foundation" or something like that you should hit up.

They are homeless for a reason... If they were half way bright, they would be in better financial shape and NOT be homeless.

You want to teach them to play poker for a living??? NOT... They don't have the discipline to lead a 'normal' life, how do you expect them to have BR management? You need to at least have an IQ higher than room temp for this game...

Where are they going to play? At the homeless shelter??? lol...

i e-mailed an organization last night who helps kids in poverty in nyc stay out of trouble by getting into music, art, etc... maybe leaning towards this route. haven't heard back- dunno if they will be against anything related to gambling.
