How much does it take to invest with a trader? Is it available to the public? You don't hear of many people doing this. I don't know a lot about this, could someone elaborate. Do you have to be an accredited investor to invest with them or something?

I'm not sure what to say. You can invest in any securities you want, and seek advice out on that. Traders often run hedge funds and the like, a lot are closed because they can only find X amount of good trades with their strategy, so more money doesn't really help them. Some are always looking for money.

There's no 'accreditation' persay, but there are requirements for setting up your own fund. Anyone can give investment advice though.

To invest in a lot of these funds you must be considered an accredited investor. Last time i looked this was 1 million in liquid assets. Alot of HF have 1 million minimums on top of that.

Wouldn't it make sense to pay extra fees to guys making 20%+ on your money, instead of getting 8% and paying little to no fees?

I just skimmed this thread and saw Natural Gas.

I work on the trading floor in the Natural Gas pit. (i'm one of those monkeys holding two phones and yelling all day).

Just wanted to add that computers are taking all of our jobs and open-outcry will soon be gone.

Computers are being programmed to trade and taking the human element out of it. Destroying the markets.

I'm hoping to squeeze another year or two out this lemon but, I honestly don't know how we can survive. Commisions on Globex trades are very cheap but, like I said.. its "trade for a tic" nowadays instead of making a few cents or more on a trade.

Could you elaborate on this please?

Do you mean like, the markets as we know them?

computer program writers devise programs that trade.

they lock in a tic profit where it can.

the computers compete against each other and locks the markets in a tight trading range.

kills volatility totally.

I cant believe a natural gas guy is complaining about his market not being volatile enough.

And as far as the market being destroyed, the floor maybe obsolete in a few years, but this doesnt hurt anyone but the floor traders. Nymex floor is notorious for bad fills, I cringe when I cant get something done on the screen. And thanks to the amount of volume done electronically its extremely rare for that to happen.
