I know few "computer programmers" who would refer to themselves as such; the relevant title at the entry level is Software Developer or Software Engineer. I think you are, as usual, full of [censored] birthday boy.

You continue to become more and more of an ass every time i read one of your posts.

I don't even know why I am acknowledging you and letting you know that my actual title is something more along the lines of programmer analyst. If you want to give me some type of coding quiz where I can fill in the blanks or something then by all means go for it.

Also where I come from, none of the titles are Software developer. Maybe by you it is different. Around here it is all Programmer analyst, programmer analyst II, senior programmer analyst, programmer analyst specialist, etc.... then there are the testers (but of course their official title isn't "tester" so I must be talking out of my ass), let's call them a business analyst instead so I can sound smart. Then there are the project managers, resource managers, database administrators, system/network administrators, information security specialists, etc...

But your right, I'm actually just a bum who begs on the street all day and average about ~8 an hour, and manage to buy 1 share of NTDOY per year. I get free internet at the local librairy which is why I am able to post on here.

I'm not much of a title person. I'm a computer programmer. That's what I do.

Your an ass. You annoy people. That's what you do.

Yup, I kind of expected that was the case; a little stretch, what's the harm?

Elaborate on your role and it'll be clear you're not.

That may be but I don't recklessly provide investment advice that could get someone broke in a hurry. Enjoy your crown kid.

Why do you find it so unlikely that I'm a programmer? I support multiple applications written in several different languages. I could care less if you believe me or not.

But here is a super complex code example for you:

strSQL = "Select person_type from people where username = "jaydub"

' open connection
' execute sql

If not rs.eof Then
strtype = rs("person_type")
End If

If strtype = "ass" then
MsgBox("jaydub is an ass")
End If

that's old code but i think you get the point. we are upgrading this application to .net soon

I think you're way to anxious to get started in the game instead of spending more time learning it, biding your time, and making a more meaningful attempt.

Your like the kid who wins a few homegames of poker, and decides to deposit his paycheck the next week. He could very well be a good player, know his [censored], but too many variables could play against him for such a risk. Or, he could invest his winnings in poker books, study for a while, and develop a real bankroll to make an attempt. You sound like the former.

People who've been in the trading business for years (I haven't) see folk like Shoe come and go.

They make a few good trades in a stongly rising market and think they are Jesus' son.

I was thinking about dozens of Jesse Livermore quotes that apply to shoe, here are a couple:

People who look for easy money invariable pay for the privilege of proving conclusively that it cannot be found on this earth

Ok, so you think it is crazy I am taking out 0% loans to buy stocks. Do you not think it is wise to take out as much free money as possible? If I put this money in an ING savings account earning 4.5% interest suddenly I am brilliant, correct? however, stocks have been proven to generate much better returns over time than any savings account ever could. So, since I am going with the best long-term solution, suddenly I am an idiot because it is a little more risky?

I just don't understand the logic of the masses.

Also, thanks for the well wishes. this is post is not directed completely at you, but more just general thoughts running through my head. I may very will disappear over the next few years. I hope to prove that will not be the case.

Shoe,

John Keynes asked me to tell you "the market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent." This is the reason why the idea of borrowing money to invest in a 1 year window is ridiculous.

Also, I am very disappointed you used the ING example. It made you look worse since the savings account provides guaranteed earnings at no cost. And although your stocks picking ability might be top-notch, the market might not realize your picks' true value in the short-term and then you have to sell your positions and the next thing you know is you're writing a BBV post about selling your shares too early to cover your loans and how bad run in the stock market.

Shoe,

Do you think that posting some compile error ridden VB is going to impress upon me that you are really a "computer programmer"? The fact that you went to some trivial yet oddly error ridden VB pseudo code only supports my claim that you are no software engineer or "computer programmer".

You have at best a programmer analyst role. You may make light of titles but that's easy to do from the basement; which to be clear for the non techie folks is where your claimed role resides.

I only pile on because some greater fools buy your [censored].

Shoe,

Borrowing 'free money' as you put it can be a genius move. You look like gooddamn champ when you can use other ppl's money to help make yourself 30%+ returns.

The problem is that most investors are not willing to take that risk. Sure.. its nice when you win. But if you don't do well and end up losing money(negative return), you'll also have to pay your debt. That is just not a risk many would take. (its fine that you think it works for you; in fact, it might even be a brilliant idea[no pun intended])

Your biggest problem is your attitude. You really need to fix it.

Wow this is great. I hope Shoe stays on here for a while. This is great. I have more questions.

1) I'm curious about these 0% loans. I don't like credit myself. I don't have a credit card and every car I've ever owned I've payed cash for. Other then a mortgage I don't feel anyone should take on credit after the age of 25. Nevertheless, you caught my interest who gives out 0% loans?

2) Computer programmer is such a meaningless title. I have friends who work at Google and IBM who call themselves computer programmers. At the same time I've met people who think coding a website is being a computer programmer. So when you say you are a computer programmer does this mean you earn at least $55k/year and work for a company which I would recognize?

I do understand your points, but putting money in the stock market is the +EV move, not a savings account. It won't pay off every single year, but it will pay off more times than not, and I still have the long-term I am looking towards here.

I'd think with so many poker players here we could see that although their is some risk, putting the money into stocks instead of a savings account is the move that will maximize your returns, on the average, over the long run.

True, it also increases your chances of going busto and not even being able to play the game (to some extent -- I think this aspect can be managed).
