Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly, but this whole situation seems weird to me. Now, let me preface this with saying that I am not a dealer nor do I live in Vegas, so maybe I don't have the same understanding as some of you who are involved with these type of situations day in and day out.

[/ QUOTE ]

I have a friend that deals in Vegas and he never mentioned it but a mutual friend that deals here locally, told me while LHAO, "X, is out there dealing $1,000-2,000 limit holdem and they tipped him $5 for his down."

WhileI find it unimaginable to be playing that high and stiffing the dealers, I am confident it happens on a regular basis.

In the casino industry you don't talk bad your customers, especially the high rollers. If you can't say something nice, you are much better off, not speaking about high rollers.

[/ QUOTE ]

While it would be nice for them to spread the wealth, $5/down isn't entirely unreasonable. It comes out to about $30k/year (and if you meant they both threw him a red it would be $50k/yr). Tons of people in this country bust their asses day in and day out for less money than this. No way someone pitching cards across a table should make more than $50k/yr.

[/ QUOTE ]

I have no problem with dealers making $50K/year. You do realize that there are many MORE people in this country who work far less than the average poker dealer who make exponentially more?

LOL @ what someone should make.

WTF are you, a communist?

[/ QUOTE ]

There are also "many more" people who work more and make "exponentially" less (whatever that means). In a tipping industry, it is up to us to decide what we feel is fair wage and tip accordingly. I have my opinion, you have yours. Because my opinion is different than yours, I am a communist? Brilliant.

You act as if I will be upset or insulted if a dealer happens to make more than what I believe to be a fair wage. That is not the case. I simply tip what I believe to be fair. You do the same.

Feel free to respond without being a prick next time.

Thank you! I've been saying this forever on here. But lots of people love to push their views on one another instead of just keeping them to themselves and doing whatever they feel they need to do.

They gave him $5/down. How is that stiffing?

As for the math...

$5 per down is $10/hr + base wage of $5/hr = $15/hr * 2000 hr = $30k/yr

$10 per down (if both gave a red) is $20/hr + $5/hr = $25/hr * 2000 hr = $50k/yr

[/ QUOTE ]

If you're referring to how much the dealer makes, then your math sucks. No dealer deals 2 downs /hour for an entire day. Most might be lucky to deal 5 hours out of 8 hours in a day. 10 downs, then you have to add dead spreads, forced eo's, double breaks, tourneys, ect..

But as usual, a "tipping" thread is resulting to yet another soapbox arena for the pro/non tippers.

[/ QUOTE ]

So they should be tipped to makeup for the 3 hours a day for which they are not working?

I sincerely doubt anyone in this thread is a non-tipper, btw.

I don't remember saying this. What a dealer makes is on such an insanely broad scale that its ridiculous. And, on a side note, it's really no one's business what a dealer makes. 2+2 peeps seem to be slightly obsessed with what dealers make for income for some reason. No one seems to care that the casinos make a fortune or that the directors/managers/et al make good money, just how much a dealer makes. Yet people always tip red/green to the floors and no one ever says a word about it on here.

I'm one of the people who is the most guilty of expressing my views and turning these threads into tipping debates. For whatever reason, I can't resist. It would be nice to hear more logical arguments from the other side if we are going to debate instead of being called a communist, among other things.

edit -- not directed at you personally, just a general comment.

Agreed, no one has a right to know how much a dealer makes. Anyway, I'll drop out of this now as I've expressed my opinion fully and probably ruined this thread.

I thought you were done.

Seriously, your views on the free market economy are a tad disturbing!

How so? I believe in a free market economy. I just tip what I think is fair. If a dealer ends up making more than that when all is said and done, I am not upset. It just means other people think they deserve to make more than I do. I really don't think I've said anything indicative of not believing in a free market. If you could explain, I would appreciate it. Now, I promise I am done.

How come Homer and Photoc are the only sane ones in this thread? I mean, maybe I missed a couple people, but there are definitely some people here that REALLY don't understand tipping, free market economy, etc.
