Looks like I win.

Not that it wasn't evident beforehand.

lol your an idiot.

Maybe with some generic team u can make the argument that a manager doesn't matter...but in an environment like New York, its huge.

I actually agree with CDS that media savvy is an underrated skill in markets like NY and Boston.

Switch Joe Torre with Grady Little/Dusty Baker/Larussa from 01 to 07. Not only do the Yanks miss the playoffs lose the divison multiple times...most the managers are fired within a couple of years.
LaRussa probably quits.

Joe's greatest asset as a manager and the reason the Yankees were so succesful during the past decade had nothing to do with the moves he made within a game.

Dude, you do realize you're not providing any evidence for anything you're just saying. You're just repeating an opinion with zero evidence. Please explain how being savvy with the media (ROFL) is worth oodles of wins.

Its not even media savy. Its handling multiple egos/personalities in a chaotic envir.

Its not a trait that is exclusive to baseball...but given the NYY environment which is unique to almost all of sports and def all of the other baseball teams the manager is huge.

Probably be a bit easy with Arod gone and Old Steiny wearing depends but its still nuts compared to other teams cities.

I don't need to crunch numbers or search the web for some random theorom...its widely excepted throughout the baseball world...hell even your average sports psychologist would support it.

Now u can make the argument for a team like KC, SD etc...and its probably true in baseball that a manger there doesn't have a huge impact...but this is the Yankees.

dude they won the AL east by an average of 7 games between 01 and 06. in 05 they tied, and would have won the WC easily even if they didnt hold tie breaker. 04 they would have held a 2 game edge if they didnt win division.

you are way off here, IMO.

joes greatest asset is got the managerial job at the exact right time and inherited a team loaded with stars up the middle, at the front of rotation and back end of bullpen. after that he greatest asset was having a payroll 75% larger than his chief rival.

i mean cmon.
